It takes a certain type of actor to thrive as a Scrubs guest star, but there are several figures who would do very well among members of the regular cast in the sitcom’s upcoming revival. Now that Scrubs season 10 is confirmed, speculation can begin in earnest about what the show’s new era will look like. Although the show’s creator has already revealed he plans to introduce new characters alongside the original cast, that doesn’t mean there won’t be room for visiting stars to make an impact on the story.
The characters who must return for Scrubs season 10 will surely dominate the revival, with their legendary chemistry as an ensemble cast impossible to deny. So, any potential guest stars would also need to boast the same larger-than-life energy demanded by a show like Scrubs. This was proven by the quality of the visiting actors in all nine seasons of Scrubs – although the closest Med School came to guest stars was established stars like Zach Braff temporarily returning as Dr. John “JD” Dorian. So, it’s a trend that needs to be quickly reestablished when Scrubs is revived.

Alan Tudyk
Resident Alien is Tudyk’s subtle Scrubs audition
Tudyk is quietly one of the most in-demand actors of 2025, and there’s a very good reason why he’s so incredibly sought after. In short, he’s versatile. Not only is he willing to step into voice roles that primarily require him to make nonsensical animal noises, like the Moana movies, but he also lends his voice to massive characters in hugely successful comic book franchises. However, Tudyk has a history with sitcoms, after starring in all three seasons of Suburgatory as well as both seasons of the semi-autobiographical Con Man.

Scrubs Season 10 Will Have A Weird Janitor Problem (But There’s A Solution)
Although no casting announcements have yet been made, Flynn will presumably return as the Janitor in Scrubs season 10, which will cause an issue.
His most prominent live-action role at the moment is also a great audition for appearing in Scrubs. Tudyk has led the Resident Alien cast as Harry Vanderspeigle since the show began in 2021. In the adaptation of the comic book series of the same name, Tudyk is required to be incredibly irreverent as well as somehow tug at the viewers’ heartstrings – which would allow him to blend in perfectly as a visiting member of the Scrubs ensemble. His range makes him suitable for a variety of roles, but he’d be great as a particularly quirky patient.

Leslie David Baker
He wouldn’t need to adjust his famous character from The Office all that much
Most known for playing deadpan paper salesman Stanley Hudson in every season of The Office, Baker’s dry sense of humor and straight-as-an-arrow delivery would be great to see in the context of a show like Scrubs. There have been several Scrubs characters with an ample supply of sass, and Baker would fit in very nicely with that particular brand of cast member. With Scrubs beginning in 2001 and The Office making its debut four years later, there was a notable period when both shows were airing at the same time.
In terms of who he could play, the passing of Sam Lloyd sadly means Ted the Lawyer won’t be returning for the revival, so the hospital will need a new legal expert.
So, there was a crossover between the respective audiences. Just like Scrubs, The Office often championed bizarrely comical moments but wasn’t above making things deeply emotional, and Baker’s character had his fair share of being at the heart of these scenes. So, it would just be like slipping into a familiar role. In terms of who he could play, the passing of Sam Lloyd sadly means Ted the Lawyer won’t be returning for the revival, so the hospital will need a new legal expert.

Zooey Deschanel
Her time on New Girl made sure she was even more ready for a Scrubs role
Deschanel was prioritizing a successful movie career during Scrubs‘ original run, so it would have been difficult to snag her as a guest star back then. However, she also would have been perfect for Scrubs during that time. Given that she’s roughly the same age as Braff, she would have made a brilliant love interest for JD. With JD and Elliot finally committing to one another in Scrubs season 8, there’s little chance of a Deschanel guest spot filling that role anymore. Thankfully, there is still room for her in the revival.
As well as her casting in the Scrubs revival being a great idea in its own right, her presence would also bring to mind just how much Scrubs influenced future sitcoms.
Modern audiences may be more familiar with Deschanel as the leader of the New Girl cast, which ran from 2011 to 2018. In many ways, it was a spiritual successor to Scrubs, with the close Platonic male relationships between its male cast members being incredibly reflective of Turk (Donald Faison) and JD’s heartwarming dynamic. So, as well as her casting in the Scrubs revival being a great idea in its own right, her presence would also bring to mind just how much Scrubs influenced future sitcoms. With Lawrence’s declaration of new characters, Deschanel could easily be a fellow physician.
7
Sofía Vergara
Scrubs would benefit from her years on Modern Family
As Gloria Delgado-Pritchett in every season of Modern Family, Vergara very often stole the show as a key member of the sitcom’s brilliant ensemble cast. She has the perfect level of frantic energy and charisma required to appear in Scrubs, and it would certainly be an installment to remember if she were to be cast. Plus, her role in Netflix’s Griselda proves she’s not just a one-trick pony.
Choosing the best Scrubs casting for an actress like Vergara would be difficult, as she would fit in very well in almost any character archetype. However, there have been examples already in Scrubs of glamorous non-medical personnel entering the hospital and causing chaos. For instance, Julianna Margulies’s Neena Broderick in Scrubs season 4, and even Heather Locklear’s Julie Keaton in Scrubs season 2. So, Vergara could play a similar role.
6
Tituss Burgess
Scrubs needs another over-the-top figure
Burgess is most known in the sitcom world as part of the tight-knit core cast in all four seasons of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. As aspiring actor Titus Andromedon, Burgess rarely portrays the character as anything other than self-involved and incredibly over-the-top about pretty much everything. That being said, he does it very, very well. Although he would either dominate the Scrubs cast or get lost in the wash as a regular star, a guest appearance from Burgess would be thoroughly entertaining.
There is already a Scrubs character blueprint that would suit Burgess if he were to be cast.
There is already a Scrubs character blueprint that would suit Burgess if he were to be cast. Although the sitcom’s patients quite often vary on a case-by-case basis, others are far more worried about their health on an almost unreasonable basis. Richard Kind’s returning hypochondriac Harvey Corman is a very good example of one type of patient, and Burgess could take this archetype to a whole new level. He is always dramatic about everything he does in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, so it would work well.
5
Katey Sagal
She is the ideal actress to play JD’s mom
Sagal tends to split her time between voice work and live-action roles. At the moment, she is most in the public eye for her return to the Futurama cast as Turanga Leela, as well as starring as Louise in The Conners. So, she has strong comedic sensibilities, which is essential for a show like Scrubs. Plus, dramatic acting is very much within her skill set, as proven by her work in projects such as Sons of Anarchy.
Sagal played the wife of the character of the late John Ritter, and Ritter played JD’s father in Scrubs season 1.
Perhaps the most fittingly meta reason why Sagal would be a great Scrubs guest star relates to her time on 8 Simple Rules. On the 2000s sitcom, Sagal played the wife of the character of the late John Ritter, and Ritter played JD’s father in Scrubs season 1. Interestingly, JD’s mother has never appeared onscreen in Scrubs, so Sagal would be a very clever casting for the character. Additionally, she’d do a great job.

Jason Segel
Bill Lawrence’s Shrinking connection makes this far more likely
There was a time when a massive star like Jason Segel would have been beyond the reach of a sitcom like Scrubs. Thankfully, the show’s success set up Bill Lawrence for decades of success. Now, the Scrubs creator has curated something of a TV empire, with several active projects on the go at once – primarily with Apple TV+. One of these projects has Segel as one of its main cast members – Shrinking.

Scrubs Revival’s Big Behind-The-Scenes Change Means Season 10 Will Definitely Be Different
Scrubs’s return to screens has now been confirmed after months of speculation, but the sitcom’s revival will take a different approach.
Given how intrinsically tied to the comedy genre Segel has been throughout his career, it’s perhaps surprising that he has done so well as part of the Shrinking cast. The Apple TV+ dramedy allows him to flex acting muscles many viewers didn’t know he had, and with Lawrence’s professional connections to Segel, another partnership seems only fitting. As a nod to his role in Shrinking, Segel could once more play a therapist in Scrubs. Alternatively, he’d make a great concerned loved one.
3
Randall Park
The MCU star would do well in pretty much any Scrubs role
Park may not be the biggest name in the industry, but his comic chops are rivaled by very few. Many may know him as Jimmy Woo in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but his most-reprised character is actually Louis Huang as part of the Fresh off the Boat cast. Over six seasons of the sitcom, Park continued to rattle off brilliant jokes with expert comic timing, and his overall vibe would nestle in nicely with Scrubs‘.
He’s part of a rare breed of actors who would succeed in any Scrubs role given to him.
The Fresh off the Boat star has a huge level of versatility when it comes to who he could play in the Scrubs revival. Although he would make a great doctor, there’s also a strong argument for him playing an especially awkward patient, or perhaps even a non-medical member of the hospital staff. He’s part of a rare breed of actors who would succeed in any Scrubs role given to him.

Aziz Ansari
Ed deserves a revisit so many years after being fired from Sacred Heart
Ansari was briefly a part of the Scrubs season 8 cast as one of the new batch of interns. His character, Ed Dhandapani, was written out of the show shortly after his debut after Ansari snagged a much bigger role in the Parks & Recreation cast. Thankfully, his exit was very well done, as Ed was fired by Dr. Cox (John C. McGinley) after several warnings to concentrate on his studies instead of coasting on his natural talent. So, the Scrubs revival could bring him back for a guest appearance.
As Tom Haverford in Parks & Rec, Ansari revealed just how great he could have been if he had remained as part of the Scrubs cast.
As Tom Haverford in Parks & Rec, Ansari revealed just how great he could have been if he had remained as part of the Scrubs cast. Of course, he ultimately made the right decision, as Scrubs ended after season 9. Regardless, it would be great to see what has become of Ed since his dismissal from Sacred Heart. He was clearly a very intelligent character, so it would be interesting to see whether he managed to pull his act together at another hospital or whether he changed careers.

Andy Samberg
Brooklyn Nine-Nine proved Samberg was born to be in Scrubs
Although most known for his contributions to SNL and his comedy rap band The Lonely Island, Samberg very quickly became synonymous with Jake Peralta when he became part of the Brooklyn Nine-Nine cast in 2013. Although his same zany sense of humor remained in place as his detective character, he proved to be a surprisingly capable actor who didn’t shy away from a range of emotional beats. In many ways, Peralta has a lot of parallels with JD, so it’s easy to see them getting along if they were to cross paths in Scrubs.

Scrubs Season 10 Can Make Up For Never Showing This Massive Event From Between The Final 2 Seasons
The Scrubs revival has been confirmed as being a tribute to the past while also looking to the future, but it must make up for one big mistake.
Peralta has struggled to recapture the same level of success since Brooklyn Nine-Nine ended in 2021, but the projects in which he has appeared continue to prove he would be a great fit for Scrubs. There is, of course, the risk of Samberg’s presence stealing the show if he were to make a guest appearance, but the other members of the Scrubs cast would surely relish the challenge and the privilege of matching Samberg’s unpredictable energy.
