10 Ocean’s Cast Members Who Must Return For Ocean’s 14

The Ocean’s franchise is finally returning with the recently announced sequel Ocean’s Fourteen, and here are 10 characters from the series who need to return in the upcoming legacy sequel. The ensemble nature of the Ocean‘s franchise means that all kinds of major stars have appeared in the various movies, with each entry having a massive cast. However, since it has been several years since the last mainline Ocean‘s movie, it may be hard to get everyone back. Despite this, these 10 actors really need to return in Ocean’s Fourteen.

Ocean’s Fourteen has finally been confirmed, meaning that the beloved heist franchise will be making its return to the franchise. The original Ocean’s trilogy stars George Clooney and Brad Pitt, both of whom are reportedly in talks to return for the upcoming sequel. All Quiet on the Western Front director Edward Berger is also being eyed to helm the project, replacing the original trilogy’s director Steven Soderbergh as well as Ocean’s 8 director Gary Ross. While nothing has been said about the rest of the franchise’s cast, these 10 actors need to return in order for the film to work.

10 Matt Damon

Linus Caldwell

Of all the actors who appear in the original Ocean’s trilogy, the most obvious one that Ocean’s Fourteen needs to get back is Matt Damon. In the original series, Matt Damon plays Linus Caldwell, a pickpocketer who is the son of a well-respected criminal. The young thief is reluctantly added to Danny Ocean’s crew for his complex casino heist, and his successes as part of the team make him a recurring member who returns in Ocean’s Twelve and Ocean’s Thirteen.

Matt Damon had already appeared in some fairly popular films before Ocean’s Eleven was released in 2001, such as Good Will Hunting and The Talented Mr. Ripley. However, Matt Damon has become an A-list movie star in the years since he initially joined the Ocean‘s franchise, with him now being the star of massive movies like The Martian. The notoriety of Damon as well as the importance of his character means that Linus Caldwell has to return in Ocean’s Fourteen.

9 Don Cheadle

Basher Tarr

Another member of the original Ocean‘s cast who has absolutely exploded in popularity since the original film was released is Don Cheadle, who plays Basher Tarr. Basher Tarr is the munitions expert on Danny Ocean’s team, with him operating heavy machinery and pulling off complex tasks such as creating a blackout and faking an earthquake throughout the trilogy. Tarr is also the wildcard of the group, with him being one of the franchise’s comedic relief characters.

Much like Matt Damon, Don Cheadle has become a significantly more popular actor since his time in the Ocean‘s franchise. While he has appeared in other great movies, this is mostly due to Cheadle’s role as War Machine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Cheadle’s time as one of the longest-running MCU heroes has elevated him to an even higher level of stardom, with his addition to Ocean’s Fourteen being a huge draw for the film.

8 Julia Roberts

Tess Ocean

Julia Roberts play Tess Ocean in Ocean’s Eleven and Ocean’s Twelve, with her character being at the center of the heart of the movies. Tess Ocean is the ex-wife of George Clooney’s Danny Ocean, with his plan to pull off the heist also secretly allowing him to try and win her back. Tess Ocean may not be a proper member of Ocean’s crew, but she has played a vital role in the heists before, with her pretending to be famed actor Julia Roberts as part of a scheme in Ocean’s Twelve.

Despite her importance to the franchise, Julia Roberts didn’t return in Ocean’s Thirteen, the final film in the original trilogy. This is because the actress didn’t feel like her role in the third film was big enough to warrant her return, which is one of the saddest parts of the film. Ocean’s Fourteen should remedy this situation by bringing Tess Ocean back, giving Julia Roberts a bigger role in the film.

7 Casey Affleck

Virgil Malloy

Like many other members of the original Ocean’s Eleven heist crew, Casey Affleck’s Virgil Malloy is another character who needs to return in the upcoming sequel. Virgil and his brother Turk Malloy are the getaway drivers for the group of thieves, with them getting brought on to the Benedict job in order to help Danny Ocean’s team get out unscathed. Virgil later uses his skills as a mechanic to help the team, with him having a major hand in the earthquake plan in Ocean’s Thirteen.

Continuing a pattern that the Ocean’s franchise has established, Casey Affleck’s status as an actor has also increased immensely since the original trilogy. Affleck’s roles in movies like Interstellar, Manchester by the Sea, and Oppenheimer have made him a well-known name, and having him return in Ocean’s Fourteen would be a big deal.

6 Qin Shaobo

Yen

Qin Shaobo as Yen in Ocean's 11

Qin Shaobo is another actor who has been a member of the Ocean’s franchise since the 2001 film was released, with him playing a character known as The Amazing Yen. Yen is a circus performer who becomes useful to Danny Ocean’s team due to his short height and his acrobatic skills, with him helping get past security measures during the Benedict job. Despite him specifically being brought in for the first heist, he continued to help Ocean’s team out in the sequels, with him even returning in Ocean’s 8.

Qin Shaobo is a real contortionist who was hired for the Ocean‘s trilogy due to his skills. Yen’s contortionist skills and circus background make him stand out from the rest of Ocean’s team, and it would be a shame not to bring this unique character back. His role in Ocean’s 8 shows that Qin Shaobo is willing to return to the franchise, and hopefully Ocean’s Fourteen takes the opportunity to bring him back.

5 Elliot Gould

Reuben Tishkoff

Reuben Tishkoff sits at a table in a Vegas casino.

Elliot Gould’s Reuben Tishkoff is another important member of Danny Ocean’s team, and he should return in the legacy sequel as well. Tishkoff is a wealthy ally who uses his knowledge of finance and the inner-workings of casinos to help the team, with him playing a huge role in the planning stage. The entirety of Ocean’s Thirteen centers around the team trying to get revenge on someone who harmed Tishkoff, so it would be weird for him to be absent from the new film.

Elliot Gould was acting for a long time before he appeared in the Ocean’s trilogy, but his role as Reuben Tishkoff is one of his most memorable ones. Gould is still acting to this day, with him appearing in projects like The Lincoln Lawyer. On top of that, Gould reprises his role in Ocean’s 8, meaning that it wouldn’t be shocking for him to return in Ocean’s Fourteen.

4 Andy Garcia

Terry Benedict

Andy Garcia’s Terry Benedict isn’t a member of Danny Ocean’s main team, but he does play a big role throughout the trilogy. Terry Benedict is the main villain of Ocean’s Eleven, with him being the owner of the casinos and the main rival of Danny Ocean. He returned as an antagonist in the other two sequels, meaning that he is vital to the Ocean’s formula.

Bringing George Clooney back without Andy Garcia would be a shame, as their rivalry is one of the biggest appeals of the series. Although it may be hard to figure out a way to work him into the story of Ocean’s Fourteen, the film needs to at least give Andy Garcia a cameo (although a major role would be preferred).

3 Sandra Bullock

Debbie Ocean

The Ocean’s franchise continued after the original Ocean’s trilogy, with Sandra Bullock starring as Deborah “Debbie” Ocean in Ocean’s 8. Debbie is the sister of Danny Ocean, with her also deciding to plan a complex heist that requires the use of an ensemble cast of thieves.

Sine Sandra Bullock is the second main protagonist of the Ocean’s franchise, it only makes sense to bring her back and have her properly work alongside her brother in Ocean’s Fourteen. It would be a shame if the sequel completely ignored the spinoff film, and if it is going to bring back any Ocean’s 8 character, Debbie Ocean is the one.

2 Cate Blanchett

Lou Miller

Cate Blanchett is one of the most beloved members of the cast of Ocean’s 8, with her role as Lou Miller being one of the best parts of the film. Blanchett’s Lou plays a similar role to Brad Pitt’s Robert “Rusty” Ryan, with her being the right hand man of the protagonist.

Cate Blanchett is a critically acclaimed actress who has appeared in all kinds of beloved films in recent years, so it would be unfortunate if Ocean’s Fourteen missed the opportunity to bring her back. Although she hasn’t appeared in the main Ocean’s trilogy, Cate Blanchett would perfectly fit into the original series, with her being an incredible option to fill out the team in Ocean’s Fourteen.

1 Awkwafina

Constance

Another fantastic addition to Ocean’s Fourteen would be Awkwafina’s Ocean’s 8 character, Constance. Unlike the other flashy members of the various Ocean’s teams, Awkwafina started out as a hustler on the street, with her conning and pickpocketing people to get by. She is brought onto Debbie Ocean’s team for this very reason, with her being the Ocean’s 8 counterpart of Matt Damon’s character from the original series.

Awkwafina is an actress who has absolutely exploded in popularity since Ocean’s 8 has released, with her appearing in incredibly popular films like The Little Mermaid remake as well as Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Awkwafina is a bankable star who could attract even more attention to the film, and her role in Ocean’s 8 makes her deserving of a return in the next entry in the Ocean’s franchise.
