Invincible season 3 is here, meaning the many big events of seasons 1 and 2 are worth recapping. Invincible season 2’s ending was not long ago, with the show last releasing new episodes in April 2024. The reason for the quick turnaround this time was the long wait audiences suffered between Invincible seasons 1 and 2, as well as the mid-season break of the latter that received criticism. Thankfully, Prime Video has taken these criticisms on board, with Invincible season 3’s story coming less than a year after its predecessor and, crucially, without a mid-season break.
Invincible season 3’s conflict with Cecil will see Mark enter a new era in his hero journey, though a refresh of what has happened thus far is worth exploring. Invincible season 3’s new characters will have big implications on the lives of Mark and his friends, which renders a recap of their story all the more vital regarding the upcoming season’s emotional impact. With that in mind, here are the 10 major events from seasons 1 and 2 that audiences should remember ahead of Invincible season 3.

Omni-Man Was An Undercover Agent Of The Viltrum Empire
Mark’s Father Had Ulterior Motives

Mark, as Invincible, opposed his father. After a bloody battle, Mark was almost killed by Omni-Man, who continuously tried yet failed to implore the benefits of Earth being under Viltrum’s control on his son. Mark Reunited With Omni-Man (& His Half Brother) In Invincible Season 2
Omni-Man Started On The Path To Redemption
After fleeing Earth, Invincible season 2 revealed that Omni-Man almost died by suicide before coming across a planet called Thraxa. Nolan met a Thraxan female and birthed a son, named Oliver, who is Mark’s half-brother. Oliver is half-Viltrumite and half-Thraxan, meaning he ages much quicker than humans. Omni-Man revealed his regret over his actions on Earth and stated that he called Mark to Thraxa to save it from an impending Viltrumite invasion.
Mark and Omni-Man fight Invincible season 2’s villainous Viltrumites as a team. During the fight, Mark initially suffered before adding more ferocity into his fighting, learning that he can become stronger than some Viltrumites. Nolan carried a lot of the weight of the fight, however, defeating the Viltrumites with Mark’s help and saving Thraxa.

Omni-Man Was Arrested By The Viltrumites & Earth Was Targeted Again
General Kregg Unveils Himself
After the fight with the Viltrumites, a general of the race came to Thraxa and arrested Nolan. This general, named Kregg, revealed that Nolan was to be executed for abandoning his post on Earth, an extreme rarity for Viltrumites. The race of incredibly powerful beings then set its sights on Earth once more, with Kregg delivering a message to the injured Mark.
Kregg is voiced by voice-acting icon, Clancy Brown, who also voiced the Invincible season 1 character, Damien Darkblood.
Kregg told Mark that – as a half-Viltrumite – the latter should return to Earth and prepare it for the former’s arrival. Kregg also insisted that, if Mark fails, Earth will not be shown mercy and the Viltrumites will destroy the planet completely. Beaten, Mark left Thraxa with Oliver in tow. Later in Invincible season 2, a Viltrumite named Anissa arrived to check on Mark’s progress. After learning he was not loyal to Viltrum, Anissa punished Mark and warned him that another, less benevolent, stronger Viltrumite would arrive soon.

Earth May Have More Allies Than First Thought
Although the Guardians of the Globe and Invincible were weakened by their respective stories in Invincible season 2, another group in the cosmos provided hope: the Coalition of Planets. This was revealed as a group of several planets who have banded together to oppose the Viltrum Empire, led by a man named Thaedus. Part of the Coalition of Planets is Allen, a Unopan who befriended Mark in Invincible season 1. Thaedus tasked Allen with recruiting Mark into the fight against Viltrum before Allen was beaten badly by the warriors who attacked Thraxa and subsequently upgraded.

Angstrom Proved A Big Test For Mark
The Viltrumites proved not to be the only villains Mark faced in Invincible season 2, with Angstrom Levy serving as the season’s final antagonist. Angstrom was introduced early in Invincible season 2 as a genius multiversal explorer, who gathered variants of himself from across the multiverse and planned to combine their knowledge into one brain. This way, Angstrom felt he could better help Earth due to some variants knowing the cure to cancer among other significant developments.
Mark defeated Angstrom, seemingly killing him, before being stranded in another universe…
However, Invincible inadvertently broke the machine, causing Angstrom to go insane due to the process not being completed properly. A prevailing memory for Angstrom from his other variants was flashes of multiversal versions of Mark who sided with Omni-Man, destroying Earth. D.A. Sinclair & The Reanimen Explained
Invincible Has Another Character Dedicated To Protecting Earth By Any Means Necessary
Throughout Invincible seasons 1 and 2, perhaps the most dedicated character to protecting Earth is Cecil Stedman, the director of the Global Defense Agency. Mark and Cecil often see eye-to-eye, but this is teased to come to an end in Invincible season 3’s trailer. The reason for this is Cecil’s dedication to keeping Earth safe, by any means necessary. Another character this involves is D.A. Sinclair, a mad scientist who created the Reanimen.
The Reanimen are cyborgs, with Sinclair creating them using people he kidnapped against their will. This greatly impacted the life of Mark and his friend William, with the latter’s boyfriend almost becoming a Reaniman. Cecil, though, recognized the strength of the creations and how they stood up to a Viltrumite like Mark, enlisting Sinclair to create more for the Global Defense Agency. In Invincible season 3, this plot point will come to a head as Cecil and Mark’s ideologies clash.
