Since losing a significant amount of weight, 1000-Lb Sisters star Tammy Slaton has been experimenting with her style, but not all her looks can be winners. The series premiered in 2020 and centers on the weight-loss journeys of 37-year-old Tammy and her sister, 36-year-old Amy Slaton. The beloved unscripted series gets its provocative title from the fact that, at the start of the series, Tammy and Amy had a combined weight of 1000 pounds. The sisters were trapped in unhealthy relationships with food (and each other) as their health continued to decline. For the famous sisters, weight loss was a matter of life and death, and their journey inspired fans all over the world.

During the premiere episode of 1000-lb Sisters, Tammy had no idea what she weighed. She struggled with her weight her whole life, so she knew she was big, but she managed to avoid stepping on a scale for a very long time. 8 Tammy’s Wearing The Wrong Shade Of Red

She Posed With Her New BFF

In April, Tammy posted several Instagram photos of herself wearing a red top. Though there are shades of red that look great on Tammy, this particular shade brings out the ruddiness in her skin, making her cheeks look too flushed. In several of the photos, the 1000-lb Sisters season 5 star is holding the beautiful black cat that Tammy recently adopted. The adorable feline was pregnant when Tammy took her in, and she eventually gave birth to a litter of perfect little kittens.

Being able to adopt a pet was a big deal for Tammy. When she weighed over 600 pounds, she needed a lot of help just living her day-to-day life, so she certainly wasn’t in the position to take care of a “fur baby.” She couldn’t even leave her home without assistance, so her independence was basically nonexistent. Now that the 1000-lb Sisters star has slimmed down and can take care of herself, she can commit to caring for a pet.

7 Tammy’s Makeup Is A Bit Too Caked On

She Doesn’t Need This Much Foundation

As a long-time influencer, Tammy has always loved making beauty content, and in January 2022, she posted an Instagram clip showing off her foundation. Though the 1000-lb Sisters season 5 star usually slays her looks, no one’s perfect, and this was a rare miss for Queen Tammy. She had her weight-loss surgery in July 2022, so this was taken before Tammy lost most of her body weight. Since then, Tammy has gotten better at applying makeup. Tammy’s doctors inserted the tube after the 1000-lb Sisters star got sick and needed help breathing. Even before the tube was inserted, Tammy needed help breathing – she often relied on an oxygen tank. In December 2023, Tammy posted Instagram photos of herself rocking a decidedly masculine look. The 1000-lb Sisters season 5 star’s outfit combines an edgy black leather motorcycle jacket with a sporty pair of pants. Though this look was a big trend at the time, and still is to some extent, it reads far too masculine for Tammy. The reality TV star arguably looks her best when she leans into her feminity, mixing in pieces that add a little androgynous edge. This leather motorcycle jacket would look amazing worn over one of Tammy’s many dresses.

Tammy is an outfit repeater, and she wears this motorcycle jacket often, pairing it with different looks. With over-consumption being such a big problem in the fashion industry, the fact that Tammy wears her clothes often makes her a good role model. However, she does get new clothes often – some are gifts from fans.

5 Tammy’s Goth Look Doesn’t Work

Fans of 1000-lb Sisters will know that Tammy has always been a big fan of Goth style, and in July 2021, she posted Instagram photos of herself diving into the aesthetic with gusto. The look simply doesn’t work for Tammy. Between the black lipstick and black top, there’s too much darkness, especially against Tammy’s fair skin. Though this particular look misses the mark, Tammy’s willingness to experiment with her look helps make her the fashion icon she is. The post has 28.9K likes, and Tammy’s caption reads,

Tammy’s sister and fellow 1000-lb Sisters star, Amy, weighed over 400 pounds when she made her 2020 television debut. She had just married Michael Halterman, and desperately wanted to have children, but she knew she’d need to lose weight first. After having bariatric surgery during season 1, Amy had two sons, Gage and Glenn Halterman. After four years of marriage and two children, Amy and Michael announced their divorce in 2023.

4 Tammy’s Hair Was Out Of Control

She Needs A Deep Conditioner

It’s always shocking to see photos of Tammy from before she lost weight, because she looks like an entirely different person after shedding 440 pounds. In March 2022, Tammy posted Instagram close-up photos of herself, in which her hair doesn’t look its best. These photos were taken before the 1000-lb Sisters star slimmed down, so she’s still wearing her trach tube. Her hair looks dry and matted, as if she hadn’t conditioned or brushed it in ages.

Part of the problem was likely that, before losing weight, bathing was a big production. She couldn’t stand for long periods of time, nor could she hold her arms up long enough to wash her hair on her own. Now that she has lost weight and has more mobility, Tammy’s hair always looks good.

3 Orange Does Nothing For Tammy

In December 2021, Tammy posted a 1000-lb Sisters show promo, in which she appears flanked by her sister, Amy, and their brother, 41-year-old Chris Combs. In the photo, Tammy is at her biggest, and is wearing a bright orange top that isn’t the most sophisticated choice. Though Tammy’s now much thinner than she was in this photo, she should still avoid this bright orange shade, as it doesn’t look good on her.

Like his famous sisters, Chris has also lost a significant amount of weight over the years. Wanting to be around for his family, Chris had bariatric surgery during 1000-lb Sisters season 3, and lost at least 150 pounds. Chris is a beloved fan favorite who is always there for his family. He has a positive attitude.

2 Tammy Overuses Photo Filters

But She Uses Them Less Than Before

In June 2023, Tammy posted several extremely close-up and heavily filtered photos of herself to Instagram. Tammy’s post has 8.8K likes. Both Tammy and Amy have been known to use photo filters a lot, and fans often call them out for it. “Would love to see the real you. Without all the filtering,” wrote one Instagram user in the comment section.

“I know it’s fun but it hides who you really are.”

Tammy’s over reliance on photo filters has continued even after she lost weight, though she does seem to use the photo tool much less often than she used to. Losing weight has changed Tammy’s life in many ways, including boosting the 1000-lb Sister star’s confidence.
