Stranger Things Season 5 Animated Art Imagines Will Being Transformed Into Vecna’s Minion

Will becomes one of Vecna’s soldiers in an impressive piece of animated Stranger Things

season 5 art. After first releasing on Netflix in 2016, the hit Duffers Brothers’ series returned for season 4 in 2022, introducing Jamie Campbell Bower’s Vecna, the show’s new big bad. Stranger Things season 5 is now poised to bring the show to an end, and the season 4 finale has teased that Noah Schnapp’s Will Byers could be crucial to what comes next.

As the wait continues for Stranger Things season 5, an animated piece of art by artist Sonnyfive imagines one Will storyline that could be to come in the next episodes. Set to the show’s opening title sequence theme song, the art features Will seemingly turning into a Vecna-like being as the real monster lurks behind him. Accompanying Will and Vecna are Will’s friends, Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin), Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), in addition to a Demogorgon. Check out the art below:

What The Will Art Means For Stranger Things Season 5

Will Is Going To Have A Bigger Role In Season 5

The Stranger Things season 4 finale features Hawkins becoming ground zero for an Upside Down incursion into the real world, and Will is shown getting goosebumps on the back of his neck. Previously, in the show, this has been a sign of Will’s connection to the Upside Down and the presence of the Mind Flayer. This tease could certainly mean that, not only will the Mind Flayer make a return in Stranger Things season 5, but Will could be crucial to destroying the Upside Down and Vecna once and for all.

Stranger Things Theory Suggests Season 5 Will Jump Back In Time To 1 Key Moment

Stranger Things season 5 is said to have a time jump, but a theory suggests that it will be one into the past, to one specific moment.

Vecna is defeated in the season 4 finale, but he is not dead and the threat he poses has not been eliminated just yet. As for how Will may fit into things, it’s been teased that season 5 will feature him more prominently than past seasons and that he will get a full-circle arc. One Ross Duffer social media post has even teased a flashback to the events of Stranger Things season 1, with a young Will shown in Castle Byers.

Our Take On The Stranger Things Season 5 Art

Will’s Season 5 Role Can Make Up For Recent Seasons’ Shortcomings

Will Byers is wet as he observes the inside of Castle Byers in Stranger Things

Stranger Things has grown to become one of the most popular Netflix original shows of all time, and the impressive piece of animated art above speaks to the continued excitement regarding how the story will come to an end. Will has arguably been underserved in recent seasons, especially as the Stranger Things cast continues to grow. Aside from Linda Hamilton joining the cast in season 5, the final season looks to be focusing on existing characters rather than adding more, and this is good news for Will’s arc.

Despite complaints about there being too many characters to properly serve, Stranger Things season 4 enjoys a strong 86% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Whether Will becomes one of Vecna’s minions remains to be seen, but this would certainly be an interesting way to put him front and center in the action once more. Many questions remain about Stranger Things season 5 and how Will will factor into the story, but it looks like he could be a crucial ingredient of what’s to come.
