The ending of Dune: Prophecy season 1 establishes a perfect new alliance and rivalry arc in the upcoming second season of the HBO sci-fi fantasy prequel series. After the truth about Desmond Hart’s origins begins to reveal itself at the end of Dune: Prophecy season 1, Reverend Mother Superior Valya learns of the remarkable discovery that Desmond is the biological son of her sister, Tula Harkonnen. The various flashback scenes in Dune: Prophecy season 1 show how Tula had to up her newborn son because he was a descendant of Orry Atreides.
Tula reunites with her son in Dune: Prophecy season 1’s finale for the first time in decades, only to be arrested by Desmond and his Imperial soldiers. Dune: Prophecy season 2 will begin with Tula likely imprisoned on the Imperial home planet, Salusa Secundus. Meanwhile, Valya arrives on Arrakis with Princess Ynez Corrino and Keiran Atreides, searching for the person or people responsible for turning Desmond into an apparent cyborg. With the Emperor Javicco Corrino dead, Desmond has risen to power in the Imperium through an unlikely alliance with Empress Natalia Corrino and should single-handedly determine Tula’s fate.
Tula Harkonnen & Desmond Hart Should Become Allies In Dune: Prophecy Season 2
Tula & Valya Are Bound To Be At Odds Over Desmond
Although Tula is loyal to a fault when it comes to Valya and the Sisterhood, Desmond may prove to be the Achilles heel that ruptures her blind allegiance in Dune: Prophecy season 2. Tula may start to feel a need for vengeance against Valya for constantly bending to her will over the years. Tula killed Orry and an entire group of Atreides men based solely on Valya’s orders. She may piece together that if it were not for Valya, she would have kept her son and raised him on Salusa Secundus. Instead, Desmond was raised by scavengers and wound up living a difficult life on Arrakis.
Valya had originally wanted Tula to kill her baby, but Tula abandoned him and sent him away instead. Valya may also find it hard to forgive Tula for lying to her for all those years, which has now caused a major threat to the Sisterhood with Desmond’s rise to power.
Tula may be able to reach a point of vulnerability with Desmond, but there will likely be no way that she can prevent him from trying to take down the Sisterhood.
Now that the tables have turned for Desmond, who was imprisoned for a part of Dune: Prophecy season 1, he will likely try to turn Tula against him for further power over the Sisterhood. Tula may be able to reach a point of vulnerability with Desmond, but there will likely be no way that she can prevent him from trying to take down the Sisterhood.
Tula Will Likely Have The Most Significant Role In Dune: Prophecy Season 2
Tula May Have To Choose Between Supporting Desmond Or Valya
Tula has decades of lost time to make up for with Desmond, who may come to embrace her as the mother he’s always wanted in Dune: Prophecy season 2. Tula is incredibly loyal to Valya but may start to see her for who she really is now that she has her son back, especially now that there appears to be an uprising led by Lila happening in the Sisterhood. Tula is most poised to become a tragic figure in Dune: Prophecy season 2, especially if Desmond plots to force Valya to reveal her true colors in a choice between her actual sister and the Sisterhood at large.

On the other hand, Tula may also have to choose between her son and her sister if she and Desmond become allies. Desmond appears as an antagonist in Dune: Prophecy season 1 when he is really justified in wanting to take down the Sisterhood, even more so considering how his mother and aunt personally wronged him. While it’s much less likely that Valya will alter her determination and beliefs, Tula is the more emotionally accessible of the two and could be swayed away from Valya’s callousness. Regardless, pitting Valya and Tula against each other would make for a riveting conflict with Desmond at the center of their tug-of-war game in Dune: Prophecy season 2.
