Rather than a brief cameo like the case with Happy Gilmore 2‘s cameo news, Kelce is expected to star as one of the officers in focus, allowing the project to showcase the NFL star’s biggest strengths.

A decade in the NFL has certainly proven Kelce’s ability to handle a physical role in an action movie like Loose Cannons, but it’s the comedy aspect that many will be questioning. However, Kelce’s multitude of TV commercials and hilarious conversations with his brother Jason Kelce on their shared podcast, New Heights, have continuously proven that he has the comedic chops needed for a buddy cop comedy. All three are successful franchises in their own right, so if Loose Cannons becomes a hit, it could propel Kelce as a star of a major action film series.

The franchises that influenced Loose Canons are long-running and rely on returning characters in the buddy cop formula. Any success will heavily depend on Kelce and his fellow lead co-star, but if everything goes according to plan, it might not be a one-and-done role. There’s an opportunity here for a full-fledged action franchise. If other former football players went on to have acting careers, there’s no reason Travis Kelce couldn’t take that to another level by transforming into a bonafide action star.
