It was recently announced that Ted Lasso is returning for a fourth season, so now, many are wondering who will return for the latest installment of the sports comedy. For three years, Ted Lasso took audiences by storm with its quick wit and heartwarming plotlines. The sitcom tells the story of Ted Lasso, an American football coach who moves to England to coach the soccer team, AFC Richmond. Although Ted Lasso season 3 was intended to be the end of the series, audiences weren’t entirely satisfied with the ending. Thus, Ted Lasso season 4 is supposedly in the works.
While the return of Ted Lasso is exciting, there is some risk attached to season 4. Audiences may not have been totally pleased with Ted Lasso season 3’s ending, but regardless, it felt like a solid conclusion. Therefore, Ted Lasso season 4 will have to explain why Ted is back and why it matters. Furthermore, Ted Lasso wouldn’t be nearly as successful without its cast. If the full Ted Lasso ensemble can return, then the show has a good chance of making a successful return. So far, these are the actors confirmed to be in Ted Lasso season 4.
6 Hannah Waddingham As Rebecca Welton
Rebecca Can Find Love
The very first Ted Lasso cast member to be confirmed for Ted Lasso season 4 is Hannah Waddingham. The British actress and singer portrays Rebecca Welton, the stylish and intelligent owner of AFC Richmond. Although Rebecca initially dislikes Ted when he arrives in Richmond, she soon learns to appreciate his kindness and endless enthusiasm. In fact, the two form a bond that is distinctly different from those in the rest of the series. They have a sort of will-they-won’t-they energy that makes the show even more enticing.
In Ted Lasso season 3, Rebecca goes through a few notable trials. For one, she is told by a psychic that she will one day be a mother, despite her struggle with fertility problems. This leads Rebecca on a superstitious journey where she begins to see miracles all around her. This helps when Rebecca attends a meeting of the Super League, which only consists of powerful men. Ultimately, Rebecca speaks up for herself and moves past her anger at her ex-husband, Rupert. In the end, Rebecca sells 49% of AFC Richmond to the fans.
Rebecca’s return to Ted Lasso season 4 is great because she brings an important perspective to the series. In a show that has many male characters, she brings a refreshing female viewpoint. Her role as Richmond’s owner puts her in some unique and difficult situations which she often handles brilliantly. Furthermore, Rebecca’s love life is a definite point of interest in the show, especially after her whirlwind romance in Amsterdam. Overall, Rebecca has plenty to offer Ted Lasso, so it is a relief she is coming back.
5 Brett Goldstein As Roy Kent
Roy Can Fix Things With Keeley
Another actor who is returning for Ted Lasso season 4 is Brett Goldstein, who plays Roy Kent. Roy is one of the most distinct characters in all of Ted Lasso. Starting as a gruff yet aging soccer star, Roy makes significant strides throughout the series in becoming more accepting of himself and others. Despite his antisocial attitude, Roy learns to rely on his teammates and be vulnerable around his peers. Though he often faces backlash for this, Roy stays true to himself and AFC Richmond.
Roy also went through a lot in Ted Lasso season 4. After breaking up with Keeley, Roy does some work on himself. He mends relationships with his co-workers and realizes that he doesn’t often let himself enjoy anything. One of the best aspects of Roy’s Ted Lasso story was when he formed an unexpected bond with Jamie. The duo couldn’t be more different, yet they learn to bond over their shared love of soccer. Roy and Jamie eventually hit a dead end when they realize they both want Keeley back, however, leaving their love triangle at a disappointing stalemate.
Because Phil Dunster is reportedly not returning to play Jamie due to scheduling conflicts, that gives Roy the perfect opening to rekindle with Keeley.
Roy is a character that absolutely has to return in Ted Lasso season 4, so this confirmation is a relief. In the new season, Roy can finally make things right with Keeley. Because Phil Dunster is reportedly not returning to play Jamie due to scheduling conflicts, that gives Roy the perfect opening to rekindle with Keeley. Ted Lasso’s love triangle was one of the biggest upsets at the end of Ted Lasso season 3, so it will be exciting to see that plotline revived and put to better use in season 4.
4 Jeremy Swift As Leslie Higgins
Higgins Can Continue Being A Ted Lasso Constant
The final actor whose contract has been renewed for Ted Lasso season 4 is Jeremy Swift. Swift plays AFC Richmond’s Director of Operations, Leslie Higgins. Throughout Ted Lasso, Higgins has always been a constant. Like every Ted Lasso character, he has grown from a timid and sneaky figure into a loving and happy individual. Though certainly not the most important character, Higgins brings some wonderful humor and quirky plotlines. Ted Lasso’s ensemble would not be the same without him.
In Ted Lasso season 3, audiences got some sneak peeks into Higgins’ personal life, including his large family and his love of jazz. These were awesome additions that helped flesh out Higgins’ character and gave him a bit more to do on screen. Hopefully, in Ted Lasso season 4, Higgins can continue to show off lesser-known parts of himself. Maybe the new season will be the perfect opportunity to give Higgins a bit of screentime on his own.
3 Jason Sudeikis As Ted Lasso
Ted Must Return To Richmond
While three of Ted Lasso’s original actors have been secured for the next season, there are three more that Apple is reportedly going to reach out to to negotiate new deals. Of course, the first person they want to bring back on is Jason Sudeikis. The American comedian plays the eponymous Ted Lasso, an idealistic and upbeat coach who uses his enthusiasm to lead AFC Richmond to victory. Without a doubt, Ted is the core of the show. Ted Lasso certainly would not be the same without its namesake.
Unsurprisingly, Ted went through various personal problems in Ted Lasso season 3. Although he certainly wanted to bring Richmond to victory, he was consumed by issues relating to his family, in particular, his ex-wife’s new boyfriend and his son’s life back in America. On top of that, Ted continued battling his depression. However, what was likely the biggest breakthrough moment for Ted was when he came up with a method called Total Football, which helped Richmond improve their game. For the first time, Ted’s coaching methods paid off on the field, as Richmond placed second in the league.
Jason Sudeikis’ next project is confirmed to be
The Angry Birds Movie 3.
At the end of Ted Lasso season 3, Ted returned to America, leaving AFC Richmond behind. This was a sad ending, and also somewhat disappointing. Though it made sense for Ted to miss his clan, it hurt to see him abandon his Richmond family. If Sudeikis does come back for Ted Lasso season 4, it is unclear whether audiences will see Ted in America or if he will return to England. Either way, the show will struggle without him, so any bit of Ted is necessary.
2 Brendan Hunt As Coach Beard
Beard Will Make Ted Lasso Season 4 Feel Normal
Another actor Apple wants to get a new contract with is Brendan Hunt. Hunt plays Coach Beard, Ted’s quirky and intelligent assistant coach. Like Higgins, Beard isn’t the most significant character in Ted Lasso, but he helps ramp up the comedy. Despite his straight and narrow appearance, Beard is incredibly strange, with a chaotic personal life. This is proven by the episode Beard After Hours in Ted Lasso season 2. Overall, Beard adds an extra layer of drama to the show, but also provides Ted with some much-needed support and wisdom when things get tough.
Beard’s return would be a pleasant addition to Ted Lasso season 4. At the end of season 3, Beard married his girlfriend Jane and remained in Richmond. This leads audiences to assume he will remain with Richmond as Roy becomes the team’s new manager and Nate returns as coach. Brendan Hunt’s return will only help Ted Lasso season 4 feel more like a regular season. However, on the other hand, if Hunt chooses not to return, it would not be the biggest loss that Ted Lasso could face.
1 Juno Temple As Keeley Jones
Keeley Should Spearhead Richmond’s Women’s Team
Finally, Apple reportedly also wants to negotiate a contract with Juno Temple, who plays Keeley Jones. Keeley is yet another unique character that makes up Ted Lasso’s amazing ensemble. Throughout three seasons, audiences saw Keeley grow from a stylish and opinionated girlfriend to the CEO of her own PR firm. Keeley’s journey is one of the most exciting to watch, though it is also the most disappointing in some ways. As previously mentioned, her love triangle with Roy and Jamie became a messy aspect of Ted Lasso’s ending.
However, Ted Lasso season 4 can get Keeley back on track. With a new season, Keeley can get back to her work with AFC Richmond. Notably, at the end of season 3, she suggested starting a women’s soccer team. Perhaps in Ted Lasso season 4, Keeley can continue this endeavor, which would add more amazing cast members to the show. Furthermore, Keeley can figure out her romantic life in Ted Lasso season 4, which would help clear up any leftover disappointment from previous Ted Lasso seasons.
With members of the original cast already returning, this can be exactly what the sports comedy needs to make a great Ted Lasso season 4. Now, audiences just need to cross their fingers that the rest of the cast will also return. From there, Ted Lasso can (hopefully) return to its former glory.
