Dylan O’Brien’s Caddo Lake Repeats The Twist Of This 95% RT Netflix Hit

Warning: spoilers for Caddo Lake, streaming on Max.

Dylan O’Brien stars in the thriller movie Caddo Lake, which has a huge twist that repeats the one in a Netflix hit TV series with a 95% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Dylan O’Brien has some big projects coming up, and the first is Caddo Lake, written and directed by Celine Held and Logan George. Caddo Lake quickly made its way into Max’s top 10 most-watched movies, and at the time of writing, it has an 81% critics score and 82% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics praising its story and the performances of its main cast.

Set in the town surrounding the title lake, Caddo Lake follows a young man named Paris (O’Brien) and a teenager named Ellie (Eliza Scanlen). When Ellie’s eight-year-old stepsister Anna suddenly disappears, Ellie decides to look for her in a dark part of the lake. Meanwhile, Paris is trying to put together his mother’s past and her mysterious illness, and both Ellie and Paris make a disturbing discovery about the lake and their families. This discovery is the big twist in Caddo Lake, which will be familiar to those who watched Netflix’s Dark.

Caddo Lake Repeats The Same Time Paradox As Netflix’s Dark

Dark’s Big Twist Was The Same As Caddo Lake’s

Caddo Lake’s big twist is about a specific area of the lake where a portal opens during droughts. This portal takes whoever crosses it back and forth in time, to years when other droughts happened. Anna accidentally crosses the portal while trying to get to the house of Ellie’s friend, and she is taken back to 1952. When Paris crosses the portal, he also goes back to 1952, where he finds a wounded Anna and takes her to safety. By doing this, Anna is left in the past and goes on to become Paris’ mother.

At the end of season 1 of Dark, it’s revealed that Mikkel accidentally crossed a portal that took him back to 1986, and went on to become Jonas’ father.

When Ellie crosses the portal, she goes back to 2003, where she comes across her mother, Celeste, and herself as a baby, revealing that Paris is Ellie’s father, and so Anna is not only Ellie’s stepsister but also her grandmother. This is the same time paradox used in Netflix’s Dark, which begins with the disappearance of a young boy named Mikkel. At the end of season 1, it’s revealed that Mikkel accidentally crossed a portal that took him back to 1986, and went on to become Jonas’ father – and that makes Jonas’ relationships more complicated, especially with his crush Martha, who is actually his aunt.

Caddo Lake’s Time Paradox Twist Leaves A Huge Question (That Dark Eventually Answered)

Dark Had A Bigger Chance To Further Develop The Time Paradoxes

Caddo Lake focuses only on the time paradox in the family of Paris and Ellie, but leaves questions about whether other families in town are also connected through time paradoxes or not. It would be hard to believe that only Anna, Paris, and Ellie went through the portal at the lake, so there could be more shocking connections between town residents and their families. However, this will remain unsolved as Caddo Lake already told its story, but Dark had the chance to go deeper into this thanks to it getting two more seasons.

Biggest Questions After The Dark Series Finale

The final season of Dark has arrived, and while the ending of the show explained many of its mysteries, there still a few questions left to answer.

Pretty much every main character in Dark was connected to others through time paradoxes, creating a complex but rich world with many sci-fi elements. As Caddo Lake has the same twist as Dark (though, instead of being in the woods, the portal was in the lake and only during droughts), it could be possible that the rest of the town’s residents are linked to each other through complex paradoxes, making the town around the lake a very complex but interesting one.
