Days before Happy’s Place premieres, Reba’s Barbra Jean and Van actors reunite in a new image. The Queen of Country Music will return to the comedy genre in NBC’s upcoming show. Happy’s Place will be a departure from Reba McEntire’s usual roles in the sandbox, as her story doesn’t revolve around a divorce that forces her to raise her children alone. Instead, she will be a barkeeper who is forced to run it with a half-sister that she never knew existed. NBC’s Happy’s Place already stages a reunion between Melissa Peterman and McEntire, but another Reba actor is joining them.
Peterman shares a new image of her and Van actor, Steve Howey on the set of Happy’s Place, as he joins the cast for a guest role. Check out the image from Instagram below:
In an effort to evoke nostalgia, Peterman shares two images. One from her and Howey’s days on Reba, and a brand new one from Happy’s Place. In the caption, she writes: “How it started. How it’s going.”

Van & Barbra Jean Were A Great Tandem
Peterman and McEntire’s chemistry was undisputed in Reba. So much so, that even though their relationship had a less-than-ideal start, viewers bought into their relationship. Arguably, it was their dynamic that was the backbone of the sitcom, with Brock being sidelined for the most part. That said, Howey and Peterman were the comedic foundation of the show. Interestingly, they barely got a storyline that involved just the two of them, but every time they shared the screen, they were always hilarious.

In Happy’s Place‘s story, Peterman’s Gabbie is the right-hand person of McEntire’s Bobbie in her bar. Beyond their professional relationship, however, they are friends. Howey comes in as a guest star when Gabbie decides she wants to have a baby through a sperm donor. Admittedly, the idea of Van becoming the biological father of Barbra Jean in Reba is an uncomfortable thought. That said, it could create some of the funniest moments in Happy’s Place‘s debut year if they pull it off.

It’s A Hart Family Reunion!
Ideally, I would have wanted Howie to be at least a recurring cast member in Happy’s Place. However, if his story with Peterman amounts to nothing, we may never see him come back for another appearance. The good thing is that if he ends up being Gabbie’s donor, he could pop by every so often to check up on her and their potential baby. Howey and Peterman are obviously still very close to each other, so seeing them share the screen again will undoubtedly be great. That said, there’s also excitement about him acting alongside McEntire.
