Oni Masks have been added to the Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 1 loot pool, and, like the new Typhoon Blade, they can grant players interesting, supernatural-inspired abilities in and out of combat. Fortnite‘s Chapter 6 officially started with Season 1: Hunters, which brought changes based on ancient Japan to the Fortnite island. The story for Season 1 seems to hinge on the appearance of demons on the Fortnite island, and players may find they need to fight a demonic boss here and there.
The Battle Royale loot pool has changed significantly with the launch of Chapter 6, including both new and unvaulted Fortnite weapons and items. Oni Masks are a new addition that can be found or won, and when they are equipped, they will be worn as intended. These masks come in two rarities, Epic and Mythic, and at the time of writing, there are only two varieties: the Fire Oni Mask and the Void Oni Mask. Here’s how to get each and use their unique powers during Fortnite matches. As Fortnite: Hunters continues, it is possible that more Oni Masks with other abilities will be added in future updates.
How To Get Every Oni Mask
Get Lucky, Or Get Into A Boss Fight
Oni Masks in Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 1 can either be found or won. Epic rarity (Purple) versions of the Fire Oni Mask and the Void Oni Mask can be found when looting standard and Rare Chests around the map and occasionally will be available as floor loot. There is a significantly higher chance they will drop from the new Elemental Chests, which also drop Boons. By contrast, t he Mythic Fire Oni Mask and Legendary Void Oni Mask can only be won by defeating two Fortnite bosses.

The Best Landing Spots In Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 1
The Best Landing Spots In Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 1 are not easy to know just by looking at them, so knowing where to drop is essential.
The Mythic Void Oni Mask is a drop from defeating Night Rose. She can be found at Demon’s Dojo in the map’s northeast quadrant.
The Mythic Fire Oni Mask is a drop from Shogun X, who is a bit harder to find. Shogun X is a roaming boss this season, meaning he will randomly spawn around the map during a match. When he is found and defeated here, he will only drop a random Mythic weapon and eventually respawn after Storm Circle 4 in his arena, a floating collection of islands similar to previous seasons’ Loot Island. Upon defeating Shogun X in his arena, he will no longer respawn, and he will drop the Mythic Fire Oni Mask.
The only other way to pick up the Mythic versions of each Oni Mask is to defeat another player who felled one of the bosses in combat and had it in their loadout.
Oni Masks Explained
Gain New Supernatural Abilities
The Void Oni Mask allows you to shoot Void Projectiles and create a Void Tear in the distance they can Teleport to. This can be especially useful in sticky combat situations to get to cover and do some quick healing or to escape the storm. It also can be used while carrying downed teammates, which can help you save your friends.
There is a distance limit on the Void Tear Teleport ability for the Void Oni Mask. If you get too far away from the Void Tear you create, it will disappear, and you will lose the ability to Teleport there; you will need to create a new Void Tear to use this ability again.
The Fire Oni Mask is strictly a weapon. This mask shoots Fire Demon Mask projectiles that deal 100 damage per projectile to enemies and structures. Similar to the hitscan function on all weapons this season, the Fire Demon Mask projectiles will target the enemy and must be dodged. There is around a 3.5-second cooldown between two projectiles fired.
Each Oni Mask in Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 1 can only be used a fixed number of times before the item disappears from your inventory. The Mythic versions have more charges, meaning you can use those more times before they disappear. The table below lists the various Oni Mask types and rarities, their unique abilities, and the number of charges each one has for quick reference.
