Doctor Who’s season 15 finale, “The Reality War,” may have hinted at not only Billie Piper’s return but also the possibility that she’ll play two different characters in the next season. While “The Reality War” isn’t exactly one of Doctor Who’s greatest stories of all time, it does feature the return of some massive personalities. Despite the return of Doctor Who’s the Rani, the most exciting reveal in “The Reality War” is the unexpected regeneration of Ncuti Gatwa’s Fifteenth Doctor.
We are all still baffled that Billie Piper, who also plays Rose Tyler in the earlier seasons of Doctor Who’s modern era, will seemingly be taking over as the Sixteenth Doctor. However, there is one subtle line of dialogue in Doctor Who‘s season 15 finale that suggests Piper will actually portray more than one character in the next installment of the popular sci-fi TV show.
Doctor Who Season 15’s Finale May Confirm The Bad Wolf Bay Rift Has Reopened
There are several glitches in reality after the events of “The Reality War.” For example, Doctor Who companion Ruby Sunday remembers Poppy while nobody else can, the color teal is bluer than before, and actor Ernest Borgnine is still alive. The one that is worth noting, however, is about the borders. Susan Triad explains that the border between Sweden and Norway has moved seven miles east, which initially doesn’t seem overly relevant.

I’m All For Billie Piper Playing Doctor Who’s Sixteenth Doctor, But Only On One Condition
The prospect of Billie Piper playing Doctor Who’s Sixteenth Doctor is an exciting one, but there is one big condition for the casting to work.
However, locked-in viewers will know that Norway is a very important country in Doctor Who’s lore. Norway’s Bad Wolf Bay, or Dårlig Ulv Stranden, is where Rose finds the last gap between Pete’s World and her original universe in “Doomsday,” where she is then able to say her goodbyes to the Tenth Doctor before they are heartlessly separated. Doctor Who also revisits Bad Wolf Bay in “Journey’s End” when the Doctor leaves Rose with the Metacrisis. Therefore, Susan’s remark could be telling us that the breach has been opened again.
Billie Piper & David Tennant Can Now Play 2 Doctor Who Characters Each
There Could Be Too Many Doctors & Roses To Count
While there is still a lot to be announced about the future of Doctor Who, it’s hard to ignore the fact that there could be a Doctor and Rose reunion on the horizon. Of course, after Doctor Who‘s DoctorDonna storyline got a happy ending, the Fourteenth Doctor now resides on Earth, spending his days with Donna and her family. If Susan Twist’s comment is connected to the breach, then perhaps the Fourteenth and Sixteenth Doctors (if this is who Piper is actually portraying) will cross paths with the Metacrisis and Rose in the near future.
Technically, there’s a possibility that David Tennant could portray three different versions of The Doctor: The Tenth Doctor, the Fourteenth Doctor, and the Metacrisis.
This would be a groundbreaking moment for the show. Multi-Doctor stories in Doctor Who aren’t a new concept whatsoever, but this would be the first time that the titular character would meet themself in the form of a past companion, while also reuniting with the actual companion at the same time. It hurts my head to think about it, but technically, if the breach is open once again, we could see Billie Piper and David Tennant play two (or even more) characters on-screen at the same time.
This also isn’t Billie Piper’s second role in Doctor Who, it’s her third. Piper plays The Moment in the Doctor Who 50th anniversary special “The Day of the Doctor,” too. The Moment takes on the form of the Bad Wolf and serves as the interface of the one weapon the War Doctor can use to put a stop to Doctor Who’s first Time War.
If the breach is open again, it’s important to question why exactly that is, and whether Doctor Who is setting up a way for Rose and the Metacrisis to return to their original universe for good.
It’s rather comical to think of the possibility that Rose could become the Sixteenth Doctor’s companion, while the Fourteenth and Metacrisis sit back and watch the pair try to save the day. If this ends up being the case, many Doctor Who viewers will be excited to see the various pairings that Piper and Tennant could play opposite one another. However, if the breach is open again, it’s important to question why exactly that is, and whether Doctor Who is setting up a way for Rose and the Metacrisis to return to their original universe for good.
