American Idol Winner Announces Exciting Career Opportunity After Being Dropped By Record Label

American Idol‘s Noah Thompson revealed a fantastic opportunity that could help improve his music career. He first became famous from competing on American Idol, during which Noah covered songs like Rihanna’s “Stay” and Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide.” After winning American Idol season 20, he signed a contract with an Idol-affiliated record company. Unfortunately, he was eventually dropped by the label and forced to become an independent artist. Noah has vowed to keep pursuing his music career, but it hasn’t always been easy to navigate without a big label helping him.

Amid some setbacks, Noah revealed a recent situation that will actually be beneficial for his career as an independent artist. The American Idol winner posted on Instagram that he participated in the Annapolis Songwriters Festival, which took place from September 12-15 in Annapolis, Maryland. The four-day event saw numerous singers and songwriters perform in various venues in the city.

Noah’s Instagram post included several photos of himself performing on stage, jamming out with other artists, and hanging out on a boat. In his caption, the country music singer revealed the news that he had the great fortune of being able to perform some of his own songs at the songwriters festival. He admitted he’d never heard of Annapolis before booking the gig. Now that he’s visited, he wants to make a return trip at some point in the future. He closed out his message by thanking music rights organization BMI for inviting him.

In just the short amount of time since then, he’s had plenty of ups and downs, with the biggest disappointment being the fact that he was dropped by his record label. Amid the clouds, there were still pockets of sunshine that he took advantage of. For example, he got to perform with Larry Cordle and Ricky Skaggs. By far his biggest achievement, though, was writing a song that Luke Combs recorded for his album Fathers & Sons.

Being an independent artist means he has to put in even more work to make his career a success. Noah’s been learning how to improve his social media strategy, for example. He’s also having to do more outreach when it comes to booking gigs. Just this week, the American Idol winner took to Instagram to ask his followers to book him for concerts. While he has a handful of shows booked, it appears he needs better outreach. Being able to participate in the Annapolis Songwriters Festival will definitly help his songwriting abilities, which will, in turn, improve his career.

It was odd to see Noah ask his followers for help with booking shows. That’s not something fans typically see from an artist. When it comes to Noah, though, he’s putting in a lot of work to make his career profitable. Hopefully, he was able to use his festival appearance to forge new connections with songwriters and insiders in the music industry. Maybe a smaller record label will take notice of Noah and sign him, or maybe the American Idol winner can use his connections from the festival to get more of his own songs recorded by big-name artists.
