Finding the Nightsong is one of Baldur’s Gate 3’s longest quests, with deep links to companion quests and choices that can affect the final battle.

It is entirely optional whether you want Shadowheart to kill or spare Nightsong in BG3, but if you let Shadowheart kill Nightsong, her hair will not change, and she will continue down a much darker path for the rest of the story. If you allow Balthazar to take her away to Ketheric Thorm, the case remains the same and will result in Shadowheart leaving your party permanently.
