The law enforcement partner to Danny Regan (Donnie Wahlberg) has been cast for Boston Blue. Even though the long-running CBS series Blue Bloods recently ended, the franchise is set to continue with a spinoff focused on Danny. The Blue Bloods spinoff is slated to debut as part of the 2025-2026 television season, where it will build on the legacy of the original show that aired on CBS for 14 seasons and 293 episodes.
Per Variety, during a CBS press briefing in Los Angeles, it was revealed that Star Trek: Discovery‘s Sonequa Martin-Green has joined the cast of Boston Blue. She will play detective Lena Peters, who is partnered with Danny, and is the eldest daughter in a family that has a long history in law enforcement. Martin-Green shared how excited she is to join the series and teased details about the Peters family. Wahlberg, who is also an executive producer on Boston Blue, emphasized that Martin-Green was “not the first choice — the only choice” to play Lena Peters. Check out their comments below:
Sonequa Martin-Green: We love the Reagans. We have all loved the Reagans for so long. And I feel that we’ll love the Peters too. I’m super excited for this partnership, and to be back in a CBS family — and in this family, your family. It means a lot, and I’m grateful for it. I think we’re going to have a good time.
Donnie Wahlberg: One thing about Blue Bloods and how beloved it was is because there are so many law enforcement families in this country. There’s not just the Reagans. They’re in every state, every city, every town, everywhere, and there are other families around that have stories to tell too. Danny’s story will continue the Reagan family. You can’t have Danny without Reagans — there’ll be connective tissue. But we’re also going to get to discover a new family and carry on the tradition of telling their stories.
More to come…
