Warning: SPOILERS for chapter #15 of Boruto: Two Blue VortexBoruto: Two Blue Vortex has concluded its epic first arc in fashion by paving the way for Kawaki‘s eventual redemption, and chapter #15 also reveals how he will catch up to his “brother” Boruto in terms of power. It also emphasizes one of the biggest themes in the series as well as making one character even more mysterious and interesting than they already were.
Chapter #15 of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex showed a conversation between Kawaki and Boruto, and it was surprisingly a calm one without violence. Boruto told him the true danger that the self-aware God Trees, especially Jura, pose, and asked him for help in taking them down.
He also told him that as he is, he wouldn’t be of any use in a fight. This is when he revealed that Amado put limiters on Kawaki’s power and he should go and talk to him about it. Boruto knows this because Kashin Koji saw Amado’s plans in multiple timelines.
Kawaki Will Finally Stop Being A Punching Bag

Throughout the arc, Kawaki was getting humiliated left and right. Jura easily beat him, he did no damage against Hidari, Boruto taunted him for his lack of training, and he wasn’t fast enough to save Himawari, so Boruto had to take care of it. The arc emphasizes how weak he is, after spending the past three years without training or improving at all. The creators did promise he would receive character development, and it seems one part of this is coming to fruition much sooner than expected.
This isn’t the first time Amado has put a limiter on someone, as it was already revealed that Code was originally as powerful if not more powerful than Jigen, and Amado restricted his powers not to undermine their leader. This means that Kawaki could be, at the very least, as strong as someone who effortlessly took down Naruto and Sasuke at the same time, but considering the new level of power that the God Trees have introduced to the series, Kawaki needs a lot more to catch up.
A Boost In Power Might Not Be Enough
Kawaki’s Arsenal Of Techniques Might Not Cut It
It was already shown that Karma wasn’t enough against the God Trees when Code was overwhelmed by them on two different occasions. The same would most likely happen to Kawaki if he were ever to take them on with the full potential of his Otsutsuki power, so another source of power is needed. Luckily, every Kara inner member was injected with Shibai Cells, which gave them the potential to awaken a Shinjutsu. Only Eida, Daemon, Code, and Kashin Koji were lucky enough, but Kawaki also has this opportunity, and it could just give him a fighting chance.
So far, Kawaki’s arsenal consists of Sukunakihona, Daikokuten, Karma physical enhancement, and using his body as a weapon, which is very measly compared to Boruto’s new techniques. They also don’t pack enough punch nor are they fast enough to damage Jura, so on top of his limiters being removed, Kawaki also needs new moves. Interestingly, Boruto said that Naruto should’ve trained Kawaki, which means he saw an alternate timeline where Kawaki received mentorship from their father and was strong enough to challenge Jura.
Boruto And Kawaki’s Methods Of Acquiring Power Highlights A Major Theme
The first scene of Boruto showed Kawaki and Boruto fighting on top of Naruto’s Hokage statue. Kawaki said the age of shinobi was over, and Boruto retorted that he was still there as a shinobi. Ever since the beginning, the series has explored the shinobi way and how it is being challenged in an age where technological advancement allows people to acquire power. In fact, Boruto’s first character development involved him seeing the wrong of relying solely on scientific ninja tools instead of training in ninjutsu.
By having Kawaki become more powerful through enhancements and science, it creates an interesting contrast and parallel with Boruto, who had to work hard for his powers. Their final clash will be a display of the series’ biggest message, and having Kawaki advance using methods that go against the shinobi way is a great way of resolving this issue the series has been tackling for a long time.
Amado’s Role Is Shrouded In Mystery
The Scientist Is Plotting Something Major
Boruto revealed that Amado put limiters on Kawaki’s offensive power while cranking his defensive and regenerative to maximum output. While he didn’t say exactly what Amado was planning to do, he warned Kawaki that he was plotting something sinister with him. Furthermore, it seems that Amado implanted a camera in Kawaki’s eye, so the extent of the modifications he performed on him is unknown, but it most likely has something to do with his dead daughter, Akebi, whom he has been trying to bring back to life.
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex‘s newest chapter had yet another interesting development with a few implications, all of which make the series even more unpredictable than it already was. It won’t be long until Kawaki‘s potential new power will be seen in action as well, as Konoha and the shinobi world are already thrust into conflict with the appearance of the self-aware God Trees.
