Brie Larson made her Fast & Furious debut in 2023’s Fast X, and while the film hinted at her character being an important addition, she may be even more crucial to the franchise than you realize. The Oscar-winning actress has been part of some huge movies throughout her career, making her involvement in the franchise feel like a big deal, which was only amplified when Fast X revealed that Tess is Mr. Nobody’s daughter. However, despite her character’s connections to one of Fast & Furious‘ most significant figures, Larson’s Fast X appearance didn’t quite show Tess’ full potential.
Given the movie focused predominantly on Dom and Dante’s feud alongside setting up the saga’s final outing, Tess only appeared on a handful of occasions. She still left a big impression, but Fast X left us wanting more of the character. Sadly, with Fast & Furious 11 ending the franchise’s main story, it may seem like Larson is at risk of being wasted, but this hopefully isn’t the case. Alongside her connections to Mr. Nobody and Dom’s crew, Tess is an important part of the Agency, suggesting she could be key to the series’ future.
Tess Is The Perfect Candidate To Lead An All-Female Fast & Furious Spinoff
Brie Larson’s Character Could Be The Spinoff’s Version Of Mr. Nobody
Although she’s a new addition to the franchise, Brie Larson’s Tess is the perfect choice to lead the rumored all-female Fast & Furious spinoff. While nothing has been officially confirmed, Vin Diesel suggested that an all-female Fast & Furious spinoff was in the works, creating questions about who would lead such a project. While Letty, Cipher, Ramsey, and the recently returning Gisele would likely be some of the leading characters, Tess is the ideal fit to help put the plot in place. Her role in the Agency means she could assemble her own special team, similar to Mr. Nobody’s.

While Dom’s crew doesn’t officially work for Mr. Nobody, the government agent frequently turns to them for assistance, which Tess could replicate. Not only would she be the prime replacement for Kurt Russell’s Mr. Nobody in Fast & Furious, but Tess could also be personally involved in the missions, giving her a different vibe from her father. Although Fast & Furious 11 may see Letty and Cipher properly team up, having Tess recruit both could almost give them a Hobbs and Shaw-like relationship, proving Larson is a key part of making a female Fast & Furious spinoff work.
Brie Larson’s Tess Deserves A Bigger Role After Fast X
An All-Female Spinoff Could Make Up For Larson’s Small Role In Fast X
Fast X was filled with big names, but that also prevented everyone from shining, and Brie Larson suffered because of this. By no means was her performance bad, nor was her character, but knowing how talented Larson is made her lack of screen time disappointing. Being Mr. Nobody’s daughter gave Tess plenty of intrigue, and she was also able to handle herself, but I still wish we could have seen more of her during the movie. Therefore, the franchise has to redeem Larson’s limited role, but this seems unlikely in F&F 11 given how much has to be wrapped up.
Thankfully, the female-orientated spinoff can give the actress the role she deserves, while also elevating some of the franchise’s other underrated characters. Allowing Tess to essentially lead the group and be the authoritative figure would be compelling, even if Letty or Cipher ended up being the main protagonists. Despite information still being limited on the project, Brie Larson makes the female F&F spinoff more likely, as she’s the sort of big name that can really help sell the film, and hopefully, she will be given a major part as a result if the movie is officially greenlit.
Why An All-Female Fast & Furious Spinoff Should Happen
The Franchise Has Plenty Of Interesting Female Characters That Could Take F&F Into The Future
A female-focused spinoff could be somewhat risky as it would mean excluding some of the franchise’s main stars, but it should still happen. Even without the likes of The Rock and Vin Diesel, Fast & Furious still has plenty of huge stars, with some of the biggest female names in Hollywood appearing in the franchise. The likes of Brie Larson, Charlize Theron, Gal Gadot, Michelle Rodriguez, and Nathalie Emmanuel could easily sell the project, and many of them have plenty more to offer when it comes to their F&F characters, which this spinoff could help explore.
The all-female spinoff would allow
Fast & Furious
to hold on to some of its biggest names, and it would open the door for some exciting new additions.
Additionally, the franchise needs some direction after Fast & Furious 11, as there is no chance of Universal pulling the plug on one of its most profitable film series. Hobbs is already getting a solo spinoff and Hobbs & Shaw 2 could still be on the cards, proving the franchise will continue after the main story is done. Therefore, the all-female spinoff would allow Fast & Furious to hold on to some of its biggest names, and it would open the door for some exciting new additions, proving the project is a pivotal part of the action series’ future.
