WARNING: Contains Potential Spoilers for Absolute Power #1!TRIGGER WARNING: Comic Panels Feature Nonconsensual Body Modification and Body Horror!

Superman Jon Kent is officially stepping into his robo-era with a new redesign that might make even those with iron-clad stomachs a little queasy due to its implications. While little has been revealed in the narrative concerning this new era for the former Superboy, one thing is certain: Jon Kent is about to undergo a whole new level of trauma.

Jon Kent’s new cybernetic form is a terrifying blend of flesh and technology, with wires and tubing penetrating the young hero’s body.

The heroes of the DC Universe have officially fallen in the first installment of Mark Waid and Dan Mora’s blockbuster summer crisis event, Absolute Power. As previously teased, Superman Clark Kent was the first among the mighty to fall, shot out of the air at the same time his powers were stolen by one of Amanda Waller’s power-draining Amazo robots, collectively known as Task Force VII.

Clark’s son, Jon Kent, and Superboy Conner Kent, unaware of the threat, flew to Superman’s rescue, only to be drained of their powers as well. Defenseless and injured, the Kryptonian trio were then abducted by Waller’s armed soldiers.

With Superman Jon Kent now in Waller’s grasp and undergoing a transformation into what promises to be one of the DC Universe’s most formidable weapons, his role in
Absolute Power
is certain to be pivotal.

Despite Metropolis appearing to be ground-zero for what would soon become a planet-wide attack on metahumans, fans don’t get to see the fate of Jon Kent until the final two pages of the issue, and the reveal is nothing short of horrifying. Through Mora’s stunning art and Waid’s fantastic storytelling, readers experience Jon Kent regaining consciousness from a first-person perspective. Darkness quickly gives way to an augmented reality bathed in shades of orange. However, the perspective soon shifts, unveiling the junior Superman as a cyborg monstrosity.

Fans are confronted with a full-page panel showcasing Jon’s new cybernetic form, a terrifying blend of flesh and technology with wires and tubing penetrating the young hero’s body. Adding to the horror, Jon appears strapped to a metal slab soaked in copious amounts of dried blood, staining both his suit and skin. A closer inspection reveals cybernetic lines visible beneath Jon’s pale skin, signaling the extent of his robotic transformation. The body horror depicted in this scene alone ensures its unforgettable impact, while the unanswered questions about Jon’s fate add to its intrigue.
