Warning! Spoilers ahead for Absolute Power #1!The debut of the evil new Justice League immediately shows off just how powerful the team truly is. After months of planning, Amanda Waller has everything she needs to take down the metahumans she despises. Even the world’s most godlike heroes aren’t safe from the menace of Waller’s all-Amazo team, Task Force VII.
In Absolute Power #1 by Mark Waid and Dan Mora, Waller uses the Brainiac Queen, to flood the internet and airwaves with AI-generated footage of superheroes attacking the public. The heroes hit the streets, only for Waller to deploy her new Amazos in response.
As the heroes try to keep the public calm, Task Force VI goes after powerful heroes like Superman and drains them of their powers. The Amazos inform their victims that even magic users aren’t safe and illustrate their point by draining Doctor Fate’s helmet and preventing Jim Corrigan from transforming into the Spectre.
Even DC’s Greatest Magic Users Are Powerless Against Task Force VII
Waller has been scheming and plotting for months as part of her mission to take down the world’s metahuman population. She amassed all the funds she needed thanks to the Council of Light and gained unquestionable political power after becoming head of the Bureau of Sovereignty. But to accomplish her goals, she needed serious firepower. Fortunately, the perfect opportunity fell right into her lap thanks to the robotic villain Failsafe. Failsafe was possessed by Bruce’s backup alter ego, Zur-En-Arrh, who acquired several Amazos for his own purposes. However, after Zur-En-Arrh was defeated, Failsafe and the Amazos became Amanda Waller’s property.
It’s mentioned that these Amazos aren’t like the ones that the Justice League faced before and have been improved thanks to enhancements by Failsafe and the Brainiac Queen. In the past, Amazos were better suited to copying powers, but now they can take such special abilities away, seemingly permanently. It’s one thing to de-power someone as mighty as Superman, but these robots also drained Doctor Fate and stymied the Spectre, two of the most powerful magic users in the DCU. If these DC heroes can’t stop Task Force VII, what chance does the rest of the Justice League have?
Is This Twisted ‘Justice League’ Too Powerful to Beat?
The DC Universe’s heroes have taken on some pretty powerful threats before. But Waller has spent months, if not years, gathering the resources and information needed to attack these metahumans where it hurts. She’s managed to create a team that knows every hero’s vulnerabilities, including those who have godlike power and can render them powerless. Fans are used to seeing Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman in danger, but this corrupted ‘Justice League‘ has power that could ultimately prove to be every metahuman’s undoing.
Absolute Power #1 is available now from DC Comics.
