DC’s New Bane is Revealed, And It’s Horrifying in Ways Nobody Ever Expected

DC Comics’ massively successful Absolute continuity is about to introduce a downright disturbing new take on Batman villain Bane, one who is seemingly able to inflate his muscle mass at will, including inflating to hyperbolically over-the-top proportions. Known as “the man who broke the Bat” in DC’s mainstream canon, Absolute Bane seems well conditioned to carry on that legacy as an all-time great antagonist for the Caped Crusader.

The preview pages for Absolute Batman #9, written by Scott Snyder, with art by Nick Dragotta, introduces Bane, who the synopsis describes as “an old adversary of Alfred’s.”

Though the updated Bane is depicted wearing the character’s familiar, signature mask, the absurd degree to which he is able to expand his body in the final frame of the preview makes it clear that this is a totally new take on the villain. Now, fans will have to pick up the issue to find out the “how” and “why” of Bane’s grotesque transformation.
