Dexter: Original Sin Subtly Brings Back The Biggest Villain From Dexter Season 3

WARNING! This article contains SPOILERS for Dexter: Original Sin season 1 episode 8!A brief scene in Dexter: Original Sin season 1, episode 8 features a cameo from a character who becomes a compelling villain in season 3 of the main series. There are already plenty of returning characters in Dexter: Original Sin at Miami Metro and among Dexter’s family, but the prequel continues to add in some unexpected appearances from familiar faces. Curiously, two of the biggest surprise returns in Original Sin so far are by characters who appear as villains in the original Dexter show.

Though he had already appeared in Harry Morgan’s flashbacks to the early 1970s, Dexter: Original Sin season 1, episode 8 officially confirmed the presence of Brian Moser, aka the Ice Truck Killer, as a villain in the show’s 1991 timeline. Long before he reunites with his biological brother, Brian comes onto Miami Metro’s radar as the NHI Killer, though only Harry is aware of this twist so far. However, Brian isn’t the only returning villain in episode 8, as the prequel also gives a glimpse of a young Miguel Prado.

Dexter Season 3’s Miguel Prado Returns For A Cameo In Original Sin Season 1

Miguel Prado Appears After Spending The Night With Maria LaGuerta

When Harry goes to pick up LaGuerta from her home so they can drive to Tampa and investigate some leads on the recent NHI killings, he spots Maria kissing a man before she gets into the car. Maria then tells Harry the man is Miguel Prado, a young lawyer in Miami. She notes that it’s not a serious relationship, and tells Harry that Miguel is “delusional” and believes he’ll become the District Attorney one day. Of course, Miguel would never actually become DA, as he would become one of Dexter Morgan’s victims before that career jump could happen.

While he’s just a romantic interest of LaGuerta in Original Sin, Miguel Prado is a major character in Dexter season 3. Serving as the Assistant District Attorney, Miguel is introduced after his brother, Oscar, is murdered, as Dexter had fatally stabbed him in self-defense. Miguel and Dexter begin a friendship that season which escalates into Miguel finding out about Dexter’s Dark Passenger and the duo forming somewhat of a killing partnership. However, after Miguel begins to break the Code and turns on him, Dexter kills him in season 3’s penultimate episode, blaming his death on another serial killer.

Seeing Maria & Miguel’s Romance Makes His Dark Turn In Dexter Even Worse

Their Romance Goes From Happy In Original Sin To Deadly In Dexter

Harry Morgan (Christian Slater) and Maria LaGuerta (Christina Milian) in Dexter: Original Sin season 1, episode 7

It was already established in Dexter season 3 that Maria and Miguel had a brief romance when they were younger, but the context of that relationship is much more brutal when actually seeing it happen in Original Sin‘s timeline. Maria seems happy but in charge of her relationship with Miguel in Dexter: Original Sin but, tragically, their dynamic takes a cruel turn nearly 20 years later. Their connection culminates in Miguel breaking into her house and trying to kill her in Dexter season 3, though Dexter steps in by sedating and killing Miguel before he can get to LaGuerta.
