Early Mario Kart World Discoveries Include Giant Boats And Water Physics

There are some interesting discoveries and observations about Mario Kart World as more people get hands-on time with a demo, including giant drivable boats and the game’s stellar water physics. The Nintendo Switch 2 preview events in NYC and LA have allowed a lot of content creators and media outlets to capture footage of the game, and even with a lot to be shown in the Mario Kart World Nintendo Direct on April 17, we are slowly getting some more details, and the game’s scope is definitely impressive.

In GettingMadz‘s captured footage of Mario Kart World, there appears to be a pilotable hovercraft-like attachment for the racing karts when traveling over water (via Eurogamer), similar to a giant truck seen in the game’s announcement trailer. GettingMadz also noted that the sheer size of the boat attachment is sure to let the driver take out other players. In a clip posted by André Segers from GameXplain, the water seemingly has realistic physics, featuring ripple effects and powerful waves, particularly when struck with the infamous Blue Shell (via GamesRadar+).

Mario Kart World Looks Expansive And Impressive

The World Might Be At Our Fingertips

Mario Kart World will allow players to drive to a new racetrack as part of main event races in the Grand Prix mode. There is also a free-roam mode, which allows players to explore the vast area at their leisure, and there are sure to be plenty of secrets to discover in the open world. With these new details, it’s hard not to be impressed with Mario Kart World‘s seemingly expansive and detailed environment. Being able to travel to any location in free-roam mode and having a variety of ways to transform your mode of transportation will likely result in the game being quite immersive.

Mario Kart World Has Already Fulfilled One Of My Biggest Hopes For The Series

Mario Kart World’s new Free Roam mode lets me live out my childhood dream of exploring the world around the courses, and I couldn’t be more excited.

There are currently 16 confirmed racetracks for Mario Kart World, with Rainbow Road also getting leaked by Nintendo earlier this month. There will likely be a lot of variety in terms of not just locales but also the means of traversing through them, and if other areas are anything like the water-based areas, there may be opportunities for helicopters, dune buggies, and much more.

Our Take: Mario Kart World’s Potential Variety Might Be A Game-Changer

This Could Be The Most Innovation In The Series’ History

The unveiling of Mario Kart World came with a controversial detail, with most of the complaints aimed at the game’s $80 price tag. If the game has more interesting advancements in its wide scope, then fans might be a little more willing to accept the high price tag. With Mario Kart World having a large roster of characters and costumes, as well as a huge interconnected world, the potential amount of variety is quite high for this new entry in the acclaimed racer franchise.

Mario Kart World will have a dedicated Nintendo Direct on April 17, so the free-roam mode and other gameplay aspects will most likely be detailed then. Thankfully, we won’t have long to wait to see more of this game’s scope and to see if this new entry is the most innovative one yet.
