Even Doctor Strange is afraid of the legendary Doctor Doom, setting up an exciting dynamic for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the comics, after taking Doctor Strange’s mantle as Sorcerer Supreme, Doctor Doom has transcended his already legendary status to cement his legacy as Marvel’s greatest sorcerer, genius, and monarch. However, his current reign as Sorcerer Supreme isn’t the first time Stephen Strange has acknowledged Doom’s power.
In Doctor Strange #5 – written by Jed McKay, with art by Pasqual Ferry – Strange acknowledges the fearsome power of Victor Von Doom, establishing the Latverian dictator as one of the few forces the Marvel Universe’s most iconic Sorcerer Supreme actually fears.
Trained in the mystical arts by his mother, a Romani witch, Victor fully embraced his magical potential after her death. As an adult, and the supreme ruler of Latveria, Victor Von Doom has amassed an overwhelming amount of power over his life, something even Doctor Strange admits unnerves him.

There are very few mortals who possess the level of mystical prowess that Doctor Strange wields, Doctor Doom being one of them.
As historically arrogant as he is known to be, even Doctor Strange is capable of acknowledging magical threats as potent as he is. There are very few mortals who possess the level of mystical prowess that Doctor Strange wields, Doctor Doom being one of them. Surprisingly, Strange has acknowledged Doom’s power for years. As early as 1989’s, Strange had been made aware of Doom’s magical skills when the Latverian ruler was acknowledged by the Earth’s oldest sorcerer, Aged Genghis.
Since then, as Doom has continued to hone his powers, more and more has Stephen Strange been made aware of how much of a rival Doom truly is. In Doctor Strange #5, Stephen Strange and his wife Clea attend a wedding between Clea’s mother and a tyrannical sorcerer named Tiboro. After having disrespected Clea, Strange corners the tyrant, warning him that even the likes of Doctor Doom, who Strange openly admits he fears, know better than to disrespect Clea. To Strange, Doom isn’t just another powerful sorcerer, he’s a threat.

Earth’s New Sorcerer Supreme May Be More Powerful Than Doctor Strange
One World Under Doom Coming In 2025
As Marvel continues to lead toward a new era defined by the might of Doctor Doom, heroes and villains alike will soon bow to Doctor Strange’s successor.
Many years later, when speaking to Billy Maximoff, Strange even admits to the young sorcerer that if he ever relinquished the title of Sorcerer Supreme, Doctor Doom would be a likely choice for the Vishanti to choose as the next Master of Sorcerers. This would inevitably become a reality when, to end the vampire onslaught of the Blood Hunt, Strange bequeathed his mantle to Doctor Doom. The magical monarch instantly proved himself worthy of his new charge by weaving together every known source of magic to reverse the powers of the Darkhold, a feat no sorcerer had ever done before.
Doctor Strange is right to fear Doctor Doom. Doom is a ruthlessly driven man who will stop at nothing to achieve his vision of world peace. As arrogant and egotistical as he may be, Victor Von Doom has proven himself over and over to be a master at most everything he dedicates himself to. As Marvel continues to lead toward a new era defined by the might of Doctor Doom, heroes and villains alike will soon bow to Doctor Strange’s successor as Sorcerer Supreme’s power.
