is palpable.
In the press release announcing Power Rangers: Across the Morphin Grid #1, Boom! Studios raised the critical question:
What’s better than a POWER RANGERS anthology? How about a POWER RANGERS anthology filled with stories written by your favorite POWER RANGERS actors?!
In what the publisher calls an “epic, oversized” issue, readers will be treated to stories from original Mighty Morphin stars David Yost and Walter Jones, second Red Ranger Steve Cardenas, Nakia Burrise from Power Rangers Zeo and Turbo, and Power Rangers Hyperforce star Meghan Camerana, along with writers JD Sutphin and Mat Groom. Each of them will contribute a story that offers a new perspective on their classic characters.
The project will give its creators the opportunity to contribute to the franchise’s flourishing in the comic book medium. Everyone involved expressed an incredible level of excitement about the collaborative project, which comes as part of the extended celebration of three decades of Power Rangers. From each one of the actors involved, to the artists who helped them bring their visions for their characters to life, the enthusiasm for Across the Morphin Grid is palpable, something that will certainly translate into increased fan anticipation for the issue’s release, which is set for the end of October.
As original Blue Ranger David Yost put it:
A true honor to work with all the talented people at BOOM! Studios, and to be asked to write a story based on my character, Billy. I had so much fun imagining where Billy would be at 28 years old. I trust fans will enjoy my story and all the various stories being told in this anthology. Let’s GoGo!
As a character, Billy Cranston has had an incredible journey in Power Rangers comics, and now the face of the character will have the opportunity to help further define the character on the comic page. Nakia Burrise, meanwhile – beloved for her tenure as Yellow Ranger Tanya Sloan – simply teased that her story might resolve a lingering unanswered question, stating:
What ever happened to Tanya and Adam?
In every instance, it is clear that these Power Rangers actors thrived when given the chance to share their takes on their characters.

[
Power Rangers
] is a particularly tight-knit community, with many actors remaining involved across successive series over the years. This comic anthology is an extension of that.
Steve Cardenas, who first appeared as the second Red Ranger in the original Mighty Morphin series, before spending time as the Blue Ranger on the Zeo, emphasized how meaningful it was to be part of Across the MorphinGrid as a creator. He explained:
I’m so excited that BOOM! Studios is expanding the Morphin Grid Anthology, and it looks like I’m next on the list! I’ve had the great privilege in the past to briefly work with BOOM! About Rocky and his background. But now to have the opportunity to create and collab and tell my own story is just a dream come true for me. I hope you enjoy what Mat and I came up with as a part of this new chapter!
Similarly, author JD Sutphin was effusively grateful about being part of the project. He said:
As someone who, as a child, watched the first episode of
Mighty Morphin
live when it debuted, the
Power Rangers
have meant the world to me for over 30 years! BOOM! continues to cherish their legacy and validate the fans with incredible stories and phenomenal art that these characters deserve. To be able to add a little to their world is so truly meaningful and a full circle moment for me that I’ll never take for granted.
As Power Rangers fans know, the franchise is a particularly tight-knit community, with many actors remaining involved across successive series over the years. This comic anthology is an extension of that.
Most details about Power Rangers: Across the Morphin Grid remain under wraps, though fans can expect more art and sneak peaks to be steadily revealed between now and the issue’s October release. Just based on the initial comments from its creators, readers should expect a collection of stories that range in style and tone, with the comic certain to deliver a powerful mix of action and emotion, of drama and comedy. Hyperforce star Megan Camarena, at least, promised the latter:
Who doesn’t love a Hyperforce burrito?! Chloe’s Chaos Kitchen has Chloe, accompanied by Sous Chef Vesper, cooking up some tasty and wild times. I had such an amazing time writing it and I hope it fills your hearts and bellies with big, out loud laughs.
In each case, the actors will offer a unique perspective on their characters that only the person portraying them could.
Further, more than just an incredible spotlight for some of Power Rangers’ most unforgettable performers, Across the Morphin Grid is also a chance for artists like Paulina Ganucheau and Patrick Mulholland, to put their own marks on the enduring action-adventure franchise. As Ganucheau happily remarked about her collaboration with Camarena:
Working on this short with Meghan has been pure joy and is such a bucket list project. I’ve loved
Power Rangers
my whole life, so finally getting the chance to draw some comic pages, and adorable hilarious Pink Ranger starring pages at that, has been a dream!
What this serves as a strong reminder of is the fact that Power Rangers has an incredible cultural legacy, one that has proved pivotal in shaping the creative sensibilities of multiple generations of creators.
