The Frasier reboot’s cast of characters might differ from that of the original 11-season series, but Kelsey Grammer’s beloved title character remains very much the same. Picking up almost 20 years after Frasier Crane moved from Seattle to Chicago in the Frasier series finale, the reboot sees its titular psychiatrist settling down in Boston, where he lived during the Cheers timeline, to reconnect with his estranged son Frederick “Freddy” Crane (Jack Cutmore-Scott). Even though the revival still orbits Dr. Crane, many original characters don’t return for the Frasier reboot for one reason or another.
Sadly, Frasier’s father, Martin (the late John Mahoney), passes away before the former radio host heads to Boston. Meanwhile, celebrated actors like David Hyde Pierce and Jane Leeves didn’t show any interest in returning to their career-defining sitcom roles. While these actors and their characters are sorely missed, it frees up the Frasier reboot‘s formula a bit. From the now-adult Freddy to Frasier’s long-time academic pal Alan Cornwall (Nicholas Lyndhurst), the Frasier revival introduces a slew of fresh faces who are able to capture the original show’s spirit. Plus, several iconic actors appear in guest roles too.

Kelsey Grammer As Frasier Crane
Date Of Birth: February 21, 1955
Actor: Born in Saint Thomas on the U.S. Virgin Islands, Kelsey Grammer attended Julliard before turning to acting. After a few small parts, Grammer landed his breakout role on Cheers as Dr. Frasier Crane in 1984. After a nearly 10-year run, Cheers ended — but it also spawned a spinoff: Frasier. While Grammer’s biggest success came with Frasier, the five-time Emmy winner is also known for playing X-Men‘s Beast (a.k.a. Dr. Hank McCoy), voicing Bart Simpson’s nemesis, Sideshow Bob, and appearing in big-name projects like The Expendables 3 and Transformers: Age of Extinction .

Character: The highly intelligent and often snobbish Frasier Crane first appeared in Cheers. Despite being a psychiatrist with self-proclaimed refined tastes, he frequented the show’s blue-collar Boston bar. In Frasier, the titular character moves to Seattle to reconnect with his father, Martin, and begin a new chapter as a talk show host on the radio. The Frasier reboot picks up roughly 20 years after the original 11-season series ended and sees Frasier moving back to Boston to grow closer to his estranged son, Freddy. Frasier also lands a job in Harvard’s psychology department.
Nicholas Lyndhurst As Alan “Corny” Cornwall
Date Of Birth: April 20, 1961
Actor: Born in Portsmouth, Hampshire, England, Nicholas Lyndhurst began his career as a child actor, appearing in children’s movies and TV commercials. However, his breakout role came in the form of the BBC TV’s 1976 version of The Prince of the Pauper. Well before joining the cast of the Frasier reboot, Lyndhurst cut his comedic chops on the long-running British sitcom Only Fools and Horses. While his long-time stint on Goodnight Sweetheart is also one of the big highlights of his career, he also appeared in shows like The Two of Us, After You’ve Gone, and New Tricks.

Character: With the reboot-adverse David Hyde Pierce’s Niles Crane sitting the revival out, Nicholas Lyndhurst’s Professor Alan Cornwall is something of a stand-in for the younger Crane brother. A former Oxford classmate of Frasier’s, Alan can match Dr. Crane’s wit and sarcasm. Despite being a tenured Harvard professor, Alan has a terrible work ethic and doesn’t seem to care much for his students. However, beneath his uncaring and sardonic facade, Alan proves to have a heart of gold.
Jess Salgueiro As Eve
Date Of Birth: November 19, 1987
Actor: Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, Jess Salgueiro had a breakout moment in 2018 when her performance in Mouthpiece received acclaim at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Although she had a starring role in the comedy Canadian Strain, the actor is perhaps more well-known for her smaller appearances in hit shows like The Boys, Orphan Black, The Expanse, Y: The Last Man, Jupiter’s Legacy, and Letterkenny. Despite all of this early-career success, the Frasier reboot is on track to help make Salgueiro a household name.

Character: At the beginning of the Frasier reboot, Eve is introduced as Freddy’s girlfriend — though that’s not the truth at all. Eve is actually the former partner of Freddy’s firefighter colleague, who died on the job. Afterward, Freddy and Eve decided to live together to save money, especially since Eve had a child on the way. In an homage to Cheers, Eve is a Boston bartender. Throughout the series, Frasier‘s cast of characters welcomes Eve as family and helps care for her son.
Jack Cutmore-Scott As Freddy Crane
Date Of Birth: April 16, 1987
Actor: Born in London, England, Jack Cutmore-Scott actually attended Harvard University — not unlike his character, Freddy Crane. After starting his acting journey at 20, Cutmore-Scott landed his first major movie role in Kingsman: The Secret Service. Since then, the actor has appeared in several Christopher Nolan films, including Dunkirk, Tenet, and the Oscar-winning Oppenheimer. Before landing a major role in the Frasier reboot, Cutmore-Scott also appeared in Magnum P.I., What If?, Jury Duty, Hawaii Five-0, Deception, and Death and Other Details.

Character: Frasier‘s reboot recast Freddy Crane for the third time in the series’ history, with Jack Cutmore-Scott playing the adult version of Frasier and Lilith’s son. Freddy, who lives in Boston, dropped out of school at Harvard to pursue a career as a firefighter — a move that echoes the path of his late grandfather, Martin Crane. At the beginning of the reboot, Frasier appears in Boston with the hopes of reconnecting with Freddy. Eventually, Freddy moves into Frasier’s apartment — another echo of Martin and Frasier’s father-son dynamic — and helps his friend, Eve, raise her son.
Peri Gilpin As Roz Doyle
Date Of Birth: May 27, 1961
Actor: Born in Waco, Texas, Peri Gilpin landed minor roles in hit shows like Cheers and Matlock before finally appearing in Frasier. There’s no denying that Roz Doyle, Frasier’s radio show producer-turned-friend, is Gilpin’s breakout role. Together with her Frasier co-star, Jane Leeves, Gilpin formed a production company, though she also continued to act. Later projects of note include Make It or Break It and Mr. Robinson, though Gilpin has also enjoyed stints on CSI, Grey’s Anatomy, and other network favorites. The actor has also lent her voice to Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within and Justice League.

Character: In the original show, Roz Doyle is the producer of Frasier Crane’s Dr. Frasier Crane Show on KACL 780 AM. At first, she and Frasier don’t see eye-to-eye, but, eventually, they become life-long friends. Although the original series left fans wondering why Roz and Frasier never ended up together, the reboot sees the still-single Roz returning in a guest capacity. In season 2, Gilpin’s role is more elevated, with her character even considering a move to Boston.
