Getting the 5-star catalyst Vivid Notions in Genshin Impact is a great choice if you intend on buffing some of your characters who specialize in dealing Plunging Attack DMG to enemies, but it may be tough if you don’t know where to look. Vivid Notions is a powerful new catalyst introduced with Version 5.5, and it is Varesa’s signature weapon. Matching Varesa’s kit, which revolves around the usage of Plunging Attacks, Vivid Notions enhances that type of attack. Being tailor-made for her, Vivid Notions is easily the best weapon in Varesa’s build in Genshin Impact.
Although Vivid Notions was crafted to attend to Varesa’s needs as a Plunging Attack DPS, it could serve other characters, even if not all catalyst users have Plunging Attacks happen organically. With the aid of a specific support, any DPS in the game could, theoretically, become a Plunging Attack DPS, and and catalyst user in that category could then take advantage of Vivid Notions. Much like when you farm Varesa’s materials in Genshin Impact, you will need to farm materials for Vivid Notions to fully upgrade it, but the first step before all of that is obtaining the 5-star catalyst.
How To Get Vivid Notions In Genshin Impact
The 5-Star Catalyst Is Locked Behind The Weapons Banner
Vivid Notions is a premium 5-star weapon, which means it is currently locked behind the gacha system. As of the time of writing, the only way of obtaining Vivid Notions is to pull for it within the weapons banner whenever it comes into rotation. As Varesa’s signature weapon, the easiest way of knowing if Vivid Notions is in the weapons banner is to see if Varesa is featured as a 5-star unit in the character banners. In the Genshin Impact 5.5 banners, for example, Vivid Notions will be available during half of the update, the same duration as Varesa.

Varesa and Xianyun will appear in Genshin Impact 5.5’s Phase 1 banners, and choosing between them requires knowing their kits and where they fail.
There are no means of obtaining Vivid Notions through any type of banner other than ones that directly feature it nor through events, redemption codes, or reputation systems, for example. Following its release in Version 5.5 banners, it is uncertain when Vivid Notions will be made available again, as it is reliant on Varesa’s rerun, and it is also unsure when that will occur. However, whenever developer HoYoverse announces a rerun for Varesa, it is likely that Vivid Notions will also appear in the weapons banner in Genshin Impact, accompanying her for the period.
All Ascension Materials For Vivid Notions In Genshin Impact
A Lot Of Farming Is Needed
To take full advantage of the 5-star catalyst, you will need to farm Ascension materials for Vivid Notions so as to unlock its level thresholds and get it to level 90. The first set of items you will need is composed of Juvenile Fang, Seasoned Fang, and Tyrant’s Fang. For reference, these are the enemy drops obtained from Natlan Saurians. Quite a few of these will be needed, so be sure to use the official interactive map on HoYoLAB to find the best Natlan Saurian farming routes.
The table below lists all the Ascension materials for Vivid Notions in Genshin Impact, split by level threshold, and condensed at the end:

The second set of items you will need to farm to fully upgrade Vivid Notions is composed of Delirious Decadence of the Sacred Lord, Delirious Desolation of the Sacred Lord, and Delirious Divinity of the Sacred Lord. These three items can be farmed exclusively from the Ancient Watchtower Domain in Natlan on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. A lot of these will be needed and given limitations on drops and daily Resin in Genshin Impact, you may see yourself farming for several days or even weeks.
As is the case with any type of item family, remember to use the crafting bench to transform lower-grade materials into rarer ones – this applies to the aforementioned Fangs, the items dropped from the Domain, and the upcoming set of items.
The final set of materials for Vivid Notions’ Ascension process comes from an elite enemy called Furnace Shell Mountain Weasel. These large weasel-like creatures added with Version 5.5 are located around Atocpan in Natlan and drop Cold-Cracked Shellshard, Warm Back-Shell, and Blazing Prismshell. With fewer enemies available on the map than Natlan Saurians, for example, it may take you a while to farm everything needed. To better locate the Furnace Shell Mountain Weasel spawn locations in Genshin Impact, I’d recommend using the interactive map, too.
In addition to the materials, you will also need to invest Mora into the Vivid Notions’ Ascension process. To get through all the level thresholds leading up to level 90, you’ll pay 225,000 Mora plus an additional 1,131,450 Mora to level up the weapon with materials. If you are ever in need of extra Mora, farm them at Blossom of Wealth activities in Natlan – that way, you can coincide farming Mora with an extra income of Fang materials since Natlan Saurians can appear in these activities within the Nation of Pyro in Genshin Impact.
Best Characters For Vivid Notions In Genshin Impact
The Weapon Helps Plunging Attack DPS Characters
The best characters to wield Vivid Notions are DPS units who are capable of performing Plunging Attacks so as to take advantage of its bonuses. The absolute best character for Vivid Notions is Varesa since it attends to all her needs. Another character that could equip it is Xianyun, if players are using a DPS build for the Anemo character – otherwise, she is better off using her own catalyst to provide support for the team comp. However, Vivid Notions only works for characters who scale off of ATK and CRIT stats.

Using Iansan’s optimized build in Genshin Impact could significantly enhance her presence as a support unit who provides ATK buffs for the team comp.
Other characters that could wield Vivid Notions and put it to good use are catalyst DPS characters like Wanderer, Heizou, and Lisa, for example. The only difference here is that these characters would need to be paired up with Xianyun, who would enable them to execute Plunging Attacks continuously after her Elemental Burst. Catalyst characters who can’t use Plunging Attacks as organically as Varesa or Xianyun are likely at a disadvantage – Wanderer’s build in Genshin Impact sees him excel with his own flying kit, while Heizou benefits from his Normal Attacks, for example.
Vivid Notions Stats In Genshin Impact
The 5-Star Catalyst In Genshin Impact Offers Great Stats
Vivid Notions offers a high base ATK (487 at level 90) for a catalyst. What is most valuable among its stats, however, is its large CRIT DMG sub-stat (44.1% at level 90). The weapon’s skill also increases the user’s ATK by 28%. When the wearer user a Plunging Attack, they gain Dawn’s First Hue, which increases Plunging Attack CRIT DMG by 28%. Additionally, when they use a Skill or Burst, they gain Twilight’s Splendor, which increases Plunging Attack CRIT DMG by 40%. Each effect lasts for 15 seconds and is canceled after 0.1 seconds after the impact hits a target.

Genshin Impact 5.5: Should You Pull For Varesa If You Already Have Xiao?
Because of the similarities between Varesa and Xiao in Genshin Impact, players may be unsure about whether or not they pull for the new character.
For a character like Varesa in Genshin Impact, who can perform a Plunging Attack after her Charged Attack, follow up with a Skill or Burst activation, and then a Plunging Attack to use the cumulative 68% Plunging Attack CRIT DMG bonus – on top of the general 44.1% CRIT DMG sub-stat – Vivid Notions will allow you to worry a little less about a massive investment into CRIT DMG with the equipping character’s build and instead focus on CRIT Rate, for example.
Vivid Notions is a superb catalyst for DPS units, but its skill only really works for Plunging Attack DPS characters. If your catalyst DPS isn’t using Plunging Attacks, there may be better options out there. Even so, its high base ATK stat and fantastic CRIT DMG sub-stat summed with its skill’s ATK buff could justify its usage on certain catalyst DPS characters who don’t use Plunging Attacks organically in Genshin Impact.
