Honor Among Thieves 2 Can Resolve A Major Story By Adding A Missing Dungeons & Dragons Class

Adding a missing Dungeons & Dragons class could allow Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves 2 to resolve a major storyline. Despite updates on the Dungeons & Dragons sequel being few and far between, the possibilities for its story are numerous due to its connection to the tabletop games’ lore. Honor Among Thieves only explored a few small corners of the vast, official world of D&D and really focused on just a few kinds of characters and classes audiences are familiar with.

The film showcased many classic D&D tropes and character outlines, such as Edgin Davis, (Chris Pine) a charming and cunning bard, and Holga, (Michelle Rodriguez) a powerful and tough barbarian. Audiences witnessed many moments that would be at home in any D&D game, including failing to distract a set of guards. That being said, Honor Among Thieves 2 still has the potential to expand on these characters’ journeys while also adding more to the world. To do that, Honor Among Thieves 2 should introduce one D&D class that the first left untouched: warlocks.

Honor Among Thieves 2 Should Introduce Dungeons & Dragons’ Warlocks

Adding Warlocks Would Expand The Magic System Of The Film Further

Honor Among Thieves 2 should introduce a new character and party member who is a warlock, as the original film did not include the class. Throughout Honor Among Thieves, audiences are introduced to several kinds of magic users. Simon (Justice Smith) is the primary example of a sorcerer, whose journey focuses on harnessing the power passed to him from his ancestors. The second-biggest example is Sofina (Daisy Head), the Red Wizard from Thay who acts as a secondary antagonist. Xenk (Regé-Jean Page) and Doric (Sophie Lillis) add further magic as a paladin and druid, respectively, but no warlocks appear.

Introducing a warlock character in Honor Among Thieves 2 would add further worldbuilding regarding the magic system and methods, as audiences could get truly introduced to the idea of channeling power from a source with a mind of its own. The film would also have the opportunity to further connect the franchise to the D&D games through fun references, such as Travis Willingham’s “Eldritch Blast!” from Critical Role. Lastly, adding warlocks would give the party an edge against any new villains in Honor Among Thieves 2 while also enhancing the story with new themes.

How Adding A Warlock To The Party Enhances Honor Among Thieves 2’s Story

Having A Warlock Battle Szass Tam Would Add Irony To Honor Among Thieves 2

By having a warlock join the party in Honor Among Thieves 2, the film’s final battle becomes ironic and fascinating as it explores themes of power and consequences. Warlocks in D&D often gain their abilities through dealing with darker entities, such as high-level demons or eldritch gods. If Honor Among Thieves 2 features Szass Tam, then having a warlock would allow for some irony to enter the battle, as each side uses a source of dark power to triumph. Not only that, but the themes of the film could expand during this battle through the warlock’s stance on their power.

This would not just be a ‘fight fire with fire’ moment, but a question of how intent fuels actions and how power often has unforeseen consequences.

Often, warlock characters in D&D make their deals due to desperation as they attempt to save their own or other lives. Having a warlock in the party against Szass Tam, who actively sought that corrupt power for his own ends, complicates this idea of magical morality. This would not just be a ‘fight fire with fire’ moment, but a question of how intent fuels actions and how power often has unforeseen consequences. Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves 2 could bring that complexity to life, much like many of the D&D campaigns the franchise is based on.
