“I Need To Tell You This”: Squid Game’s Front Man Star Addresses Potential Netflix Spinoff After Season 3

One of the stars of Squid Game just commented on the possibility of a spinoff following the series’ explosive conclusion, arriving on Netflix on June 27, 2025. Becoming a global phenomenon when it premiered in 2021, Squid Game follows Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), who is recruited to a tournament where hundreds of cash-strapped individuals play deadly versions of children’s games to win a life-changing cash prize. As the show progresses, Gi-hun finds himself in a literal and ideological battle with the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun), the manager of the Games.

Squid Game season 3 is to be the show’s final outing, but during an interview on The Tonight Show, star Lee Byung-hun suggested that a spinoff focusing on the Front Man or another character could someday happen. Check out his comments below:

Okay, I need to tell you this. Uh, I’m not sure about that. But there’s a possibility and we’ll never know what happens.

It Could Happen…Someday

It makes a lot of sense that Netflix would want to continue the Squid Game franchise (David Fincher is currently developing an English-language tie-in) when it has been one of their heaviest hitters in recent years. Bringing the current series to a satisfying conclusion is undoubtedly a complicated task for the writers, so focusing on that and then revisiting the possibility of a sequel or spinoff series later is in their best interest. As Lee Byung-hun says it, this isn’t something they are actively discussing at the moment, but it hasn’t been ruled out.

Squid Game Creator Addresses Whether Season 3 Will Have A Happy Ending

The Squid Game series creator is asked whether the Netflix show will have a happy ending and gives an appropriately ambiguous answer.

It’s hard to tell whether a spinoff could be a good or a bad thing for Squid Game. However, the best prequel series of all time are a testament to the potential, and if Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has a new idea that he believes in just as much, we could be seeing another massive thriller series from Netflix in the years to come. However, first is the conclusion to Squid Game that the cast and crew have all vouched for.

Our Take On The Possibility Of A Front Man Squid Game Spinoff

A Squid Game Spinoff Needs To Have Just As Sharp Themes

The Front Man is watching the players while holding his drink in Squid Game

It could be difficult for a series following the Front Man, either In-ho or any of those that came before him, to find its purpose. A lot of the relevant thematic material surrounding this figure has been covered in Squid Game, and will probably be wrapped up by the time Squid Game season 3 ends. We have learned about the strenuous circumstances that led to In-ho becoming a player and have a sense of the cold pragmatism that he believes justifies the Games. What more is there to talk about?

But maybe a prequel series about the Front Man, or the very origins of the Games, could be a deeper and more effective look at this philosophy. Squid Game has to give focus to Gi-hun’s unwavering belief that there is some good in humanity, which will probably be reflected in the series ending. However, perhaps we will eventually see an even darker tale, one with no bittersweet endings, only entirely grim ones.
