One of the most iconic magical girl franchises of all time, Sailor Moon, is finally coming to an end with an epic two-part movie series coming to Netflix this Summer. Over 30 years after its release, the final chapter of Sailor Moon‘s story is finally being animated, and a new exciting trailer finally gives a peek at the franchise’s upcoming final installment.
Netflix recently revealed an all-new trailer for Sailor Moon Cosmos, a two-part film set to release on Netflix on August 22, 2024. The film series originally aired in Japan back in June with part 1 releasing on June 9 and part 2 on June 30, and fans around the world have eagerly been awaiting its release on streaming since.
Even though the films haven’t been a huge success in Japan and the previous installments of the franchise have been dubbed less than satisfactory by fans, there has still been hope that Sailor Moon Cosmos will finally serve as a fitting ending to Usagi’s thirty-year-long adventure.
Sailor Moon Cosmos Will Conclude Sailor Moon’s Story
Directed by Tomoya Takahashi and Co-Produced by Toei Animation and Studio Deen
As seen in the trailer, the upcoming two-part film series will be adapting the Shadow Galactica Arc, which is the final arc of Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon. The new trailer teases Usagi’s final battle of the story against Sailor Galaxia, the strongest of the Sailor Senshi. The final installment of the franchise is also expected to feature the conclusion to Usagi and Mamoru’s relationship, making the release one to look forward to.
While it is certainly not the first magical girl anime, Naoko Takeuchi’s Sailor Moon was a revolutionary series that not only popularized the magical genre as a whole but also thoroughly shaped it into what it is known to be today.
