Summary
- Netflix now offers A Discovery of Witches and Mayfair Witches, ideal for American Horror Story fans craving more witch-centered stories.
- Both shows mirror the dark themes and supernatural elements seen in AHS: Coven, delving into magical worlds and secrets.
- Mayfair Witches, based on Anne Rice’s books, promises ongoing intrigue as it explores a powerful dynasty of witches haunted by dark spirits.
Netflix is now streaming several hit TV shows from AMC, which includes two witch-centered series that are perfect for fans of American Horror Story: Coven. After 12 seasons of American Horror Story, the Ryan Murphy anthology series has covered a wide variety of supernatural and terrifying themes, concepts, and narratives. Still remaining among the most beloved of these outings is American Horror Story season 3, Coven, which is a dark exploration of witches and magical powers at a historic coven in New Orleans.
Since there was only one occasion in which American Horror Story truly dove back into its witch themes, namely when the characters returned in season 8’s Apocalypse story, the witch-centered TV gap left by Coven has had to be filled elsewhere. Thankfully, Netflix’s slew of AMC shows that joined its library on August 19 includes two recent dark fantasy and horror series about witches – one of which is also set in New Orleans. With multiple seasons of each, AMC’s A Discovery of Witches and Mayfair Witches serve as great follow-up viewings to AHS: Coven’s witch horror.

Alongside popular horror shows like Fear the Walking Dead and The Terror, Netflix is now streaming AMC’s A Discovery of Witches and Mayfair Witches. A Discovery of Witches debuted in 2018 as an adaptation of Deborah Harkness’ All Souls Trilogy of books, following the story of a reluctant witch who partners with a vampire to explore the world of supernatural creatures while uncovering secrets about magical beings. Holding an 87% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, A Discovery of Witches’ series ended after three seasons and a total of 25 episodes in 2022.

Why A Discovery Of Witches & Mayfair Witches Are Perfect Replacements For AHS: Coven Fans
The Two Witch-Based Shows Continue The Exploration Of Dark Secrets In Their Supernatural Worlds
A Discovery of Witches and Mayfair Witches both feature similar themes, character dynamics, darker tones, and horror influence to American Horror Story: Coven. Like Zoe discovering her powers at the start of Coven, Mayfair Witches kicks off with Rowan traveling to New Orleans to learn more about her witch abilities, the dark history of her coven of witches, and the forces that threaten their existence. A Discovery of Witches is more dark fantasy-inspired than horror, but still maintains the supernatural themes of American Horror Story: Coven with other magical beings and comparable critical acclaim.
