Invincible Season 3’s Omni-Man Replacement Isn’t Mark – It’s This Unexpected Character

Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for Invincible season 3, episodes 1-3, and the Invincible comics.

Having been introduced as Invincible‘s main antagonist in season 1, Omni-Man started to show signs of change and abandoned his mission to conquer Earth, setting up a big role in season 3. However, he has been largely absent from the opening three episodes and only made a brief appearance in “You’re Not Laughing Now”, but the series has already provided the perfect replacement. With Mark Grayson getting his blue suit in season 3, Invincible is starting to set up a darker arc for the protagonist, suggesting his moral complexity could draw some parallels to his father’s story.

Despite this, Mark seems unlikely to follow in Omni-Man’s footsteps, as his desire to protect others and his good heart make it hard to imagine him ruthlessly murdering civilians. Still, Invincible season 3’s premiere episodes have already made it clear there is a need to get violent, as Doc Seismic, the Mauler Twins, and even Cecil confirmed Mark won’t have an easy future as a superhero. Remarkably, the protagonist has still shown restraint and remained true to himself despite these challenges and hardships, but the same can’t be said for his brother, who has displayed shades of his father.

Why Oliver Wants To Be Called “Kid Omni-Man” In Invincible Season 3

Oliver Has Never Seen His Father’s Evil Side & Is Still Inspired By Omni-Man

At first glance, Oliver may look relatively sweet and harmless, but he’s well on his way to becoming like Omni-Man, and his superhero alias proves it. Despite being a baby while his father was around, Oliver clearly has fond memories of him, hence wanting to be named after Omni-Man. Given he was once Earth’s most powerful hero, it makes sense Oliver would have the same sort of ambitions and take inspiration from Omni-Man. In addition, he is far too young to fully understand just how awful Nolan’s actions during season 1 were, hence his nonchalant attitude towards death.

In Oliver’s eyes, Omni-Man isn’t just another hero, he is the ultimate symbol of strength and his personal connection makes him aspire to be just like his dad, even if it means killing his enemies. With Oliver’s powers also mimicking Omni-Man’s in Invincible season 3, it’s clear the young hero has been heavily influenced by his father despite being raised predominantly by Mark and Debbie, making his alias even more heartbreaking for the Graysons. While Oliver may eventually understand why the people of Earth won’t be supportive of his name, his youthful naivety makes him overlook his father’s sins.

The Kid Omni-Man name may come from a place of good intent, but with the rest of the world unlikely to share his enthusiasm towards his father, it looks bound to cause problems in the near future.

Oliver Is Already More Like Omni-Man Than Invincible

His Lack Of Remorse Towards Killing Makes Oliver More Of A Viltrumite Than Mark

Oliver / Kid Omni-Man punching one of the Mauler Twins in Invincible

Oliver may still be young, but he is already way more like Omni-man than Invincible. Whereas Mark took a long time to get his powers, Oliver got them at an incredibly young age and seems to have learned how to use them much quicker. His fight with the Maulers proves not only how strong he is, but also how similar to Omni-Man he is. Even if we were to give Kid Omni-Man the benefit of the doubt and assume killing the first Mauler Twin was an accident, there’s no doubt he murdered the other even after the villain surrendered.

Despite the villain targeting his family, Mark regrets not showing him mercy, making him completely different from Omni-Man, who was a stone-cold killer in season 1.

As a result, it’s clear he shares the ruthless, cold nature of his father, rather than the humanity of his brother. Mark fought incredibly hard to avoid being like Omni-Man, as killing Angstrom Levy during Invincible season 2’s ending still eats away at the protagonist. Despite the villain targeting his family, Mark regrets not showing him mercy, making him completely different from Omni-Man, who was a stone-cold killer in season 1. On the flip side, Oliver shows no sympathy for killing the Mauler Twins and doesn’t seem to value people’s lives, making him eerily similar to his father.

Although Omni-Man has since reformed and even appeared to show concern for Allen, his youngest son seems to be inheriting some of his most sinister traits. While Oliver wants Mark to train him so they can’t fight alongside one another, he doesn’t seem to be taking after his brother, and it looks like he could end up being much more like Omni-Man than Invincible, which will be a fascinating prospect going forward.

Oliver’s Strength Makes Him A Worthy Omni-Man Replacement

Killing The Maulers With Ease Proves Oliver Has Some Scary Potential

Living up to Omni-Man’s potential is no easy task given how strong and intimidating the former antagonist is, but Oliver seems like a worthy replacement. While it’s unclear exactly how long Kid Omni-Man has been hiding his powers, it’s safe to assume he got them recently, yet he was able to kill two of Invincible‘s most powerful characters. Although his inexperience showed during the fight with Kursk and Furnace, Oliver was able to single-handedly take down the Mauler Twins, proving he can go toe-to-toe with some of the show’s most prominent villains, just like Omni-Man.

Invincible Season 3 Cast & Character Guide: Every New & Returning Actor

Invincible is back with season 3, reuniting old characters and their cast members while adding a whole host of new faces with familiar voice actors.

Considering this was his first real taste of combat, Oliver has so much more potential and will only get stronger, meaning he could one day match the ability of his father. He may have seemed a little in over his head at first, but Oliver’s devastating strikes against the Maulers already make him extremely menacing, and the sort of hero no one wants to cross. As a result, he is filling the gap left by Omni-Man perfectly, and while Oliver will hopefully atone for his violent actions, his morally gray attitude has quickly become one of the show’s best aspects.

Oliver Becomes An Integral Part Of Invincible’s Main Storylines

Oliver’s dark twist in episode 3 hinted at a potentially turbulent future, but the comics provide an insight into what will happen next for the young hero. Despite the cold attitude Oliver has shown so far in season 3, Mark and Debbie seem like they will eventually get through to the youngest of the Grayson family, according to the source material. Rather than continuing down the troubling path that season 3 has started, Oliver eventually becomes a true hero and plays a large part in the comic story, fighting alongside Mark in both the Invincible War and the Viltrumite War.

New episodes of Invincible season 3 are available every Thursday on Prime Video.

Given his heritage of being part Viltrumite and part Thraxan, Oliver grows up pretty fast, but his aging process slows down the older he gets. After being involved in some key fights and major arcs, Oliver eventually leaves Earth and goes to Talescria, before once again getting involved in the central storyline. He also gets a definitive ending that marks the end of his journey, and regardless of whether Prime Video’s Invincible adaptation keeps his character exactly the same, he seems destined to be a big part of the series for years to come.
