Early Life and Education
Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke was born on January 15, 1955, in Enugu, Enugu State, Nigeria. His parents were Senator Ayoola Adeleke and Esther Adeleke, and he had a sibling named Adedeji Adeleke.
Adeleke began his primary education at Christ Church School in Enugu before relocating to Ibadan. He later completed his secondary education at Ogbomoso Grammar School. Academically, Adeleke held a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master’s degree in Public Administration.
Career
Adeleke was a prominent Nigerian politician. He was a member of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), which was the dominant party in Osun State. In 1992, he was elected as the first civilian governor of Osun State.
As governor, Adeleke made notable decisions such as establishing a polytechnic at Iree, a college of technology at Esa-Oke, and completing the Osun State Broadcasting Corporation.
In 1994, after the dissolution of the republic, Adeleke switched political allegiances. He joined the opposition group Afenifere, and later the Democratic Party of Nigeria, a new party with support from associates of Sani Abacha.
In 2007, Adeleke was elected as a senator for Osun West. He served on several Senate committees, including Upstream Petroleum Resources, Integration and Cooperation, Housing, and Air Force.
