King of the Hill is given the live-action treatment in surreal new images. King of the Hill was an adult animated series that ran for 13 seasons across 1997 to 2010. Created by Greg Daniels, the King of the Hill main voice cast included Mike Judge, Kathy Najimy, Pamela Adlon, Johnny Hardwick, Stephen Root, Brittany Murphy, and Toby Huss. Over the course of its 14 seasons, the series had over 250 episodes.

A recent Reddit post from @DarkSkyMonkey gives an AI-aided look at what King of the Hill would look like if it were in live-action. The post included a series of several images of the King of the Hill cast in a live-action look. Characters covered included Hank, Bobby, Dale, Luanne, Bill, Peggy, and Redcorn. Bobby seems the most realistic to the character, transformed into a young boy in a cafeteria, standing in front of a plate of food. Dale wears his classic exterminator uniform, while Redcorn is shirtless and exaggeratedly chiseled.

Should King of the Hill Get A Live-Action Adaptation?

The Series Is Already Getting An Animated Revival

A King of the Hill live-action adaptation has not been made, but the series does have an upcoming revival. Several years ago, it was revealed that original series team members Daniels and Judge were in collaboration on settling a deal for a King of the Hill revival. The revival show would take place fifteen years after the conclusion of King of the Hill, which is roughly the same amount of real-life time that has passed since the show went off-air. The series was subsequently picked up by Hulu, and has set a tentative release date for early 2025.

So, King of the Hill will get another iteration, albeit not a live-action reimagination. As far as the reports go, the King of the Hill reboot will be entirely animated. Looking at the AI rendition of an imagined live-action King of the Hill, this choice is probably a positive one. The live-action version of the characters looks more uncanny, whereas the animated form allows the creators to exaggerate features for stylistic and comedic effect.

King of the Hill is a hilarious, beautifully grounded animated sitcom. There are plenty of iconic episodes to watch before the reboot arrives on Hulu.

For now, King of the Hill will stay in the animated universe, but that does not mean that is where the series will have to forever remain. Though mostly a trend in movies, creating live-action projects out of animated properties is a growing trend in recent years. Disney’s live-action adaptations have inundated theaters, with remade titles including Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, and the upcoming live-action adaptation of Moana. With King of the Hill getting renewed life on Hulu next year, it is not out of the realm of possibility that a live-action version could be floated.
