Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes stars Freya Allan and Peter Macon tease a sequel to the 2024 film. Directed by Wes Ball, the latest installment in the long-running Planet of the Apes franchise follows a young ape named Noa (Owen Teague) as he embarks on an epic adventure and encounters Mae (Allan), one of the few remaining humans, and Raka (Macon), a wise ape. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes‘ reviews were positive from critics and the film was a modest success at the box office, leading to chatter about a potential follow-up.
At San Diego Comic-Con, GamesRadar+ asks Allan and Macon about a prospective Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes sequel. Allan replies coyly, saying only, “I know things,” but revealing nothing more. Both actors then went on to discuss how the latest film sets up a follow-up and what they’d like to see from the next movie. Check out the exchange below:
Macon: “I feel like there is some really juicy and delicious hard conversations that need to be had. Where do we go? Where we leave the film, [we’re] rooting for [Mae] but kind of can’t stand [her].”
Allan: “Oh no, I feel like most people can’t stand Mae! This poor girl had to do what she had to do. What choices do you have in that moment?”
Macon: “I feel like this film has laid a very rich foundation of further difficult conversations. Kevin Durand [Proximus Caesar] and I talk a lot about like, ‘What would it look like if Raka and Proximus sat down and had a chat?'”
How Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes Sets Up A Sequel
Will Noa’s Story Continue?
Warning! Spoilers ahead for Kingdom of the Planet of the ApesThe Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes ending could serve as a satisfying conclusion to the stories of Noa and Mae, but it also clearly sets the stage for another film. Mae retrieves a crucial piece of technology that allows her band of human survivors to re-establish global communication, and thus organize against the apes that dominate the world. Noa, meanwhile, takes on a leadership role with his own clan of apes, and the story teases that he could become a Caesar-like figure.

Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes Set Up A Very Strange Way To Bring Back Caesar For A Sequel
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes secretly sets up a strange original movie remake, meaning that Caesar can come back in one weird way.
Interestingly, one of the final scenes of the film sees Mae visiting Noa before returning to her people. She holds a gun behind her back in this scene, suggesting that she sees Noa’s intelligence and recognizes that he could be a threat to humanity. It’s Noa’s intelligence and compassion, however, that also result in Mae seeing that they’re not so different, and they ultimately part with an uneasy truce. Any future film would seemingly further explore this dynamic between Noa and Mae, and their relationship could be the key to preventing an all-out war.
While not quite reaching the same heights as its three predecessors, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes‘ box office haul of $396.7 million bodes well for a sequel getting the green light. Ball, too, has revealed his hopes that the film serves as the first installment in a new trilogy. A Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes sequel is not yet a sure thing, but it certainly sounds like progress is being made behind the scenes.
