AMC CEO Adam Aron has projected that Moana 2 may be even bigger than Inside Out 2, potentially putting it on track to become Disney’s highest-grossing movie of 2024. The upcoming Moana 2 is the hotly-anticipated sequel to 2016’s Moana, originally envisioned as a Disney+ series before being reworked into a feature-length sequel. This will be the second major animated movie from Disney in 2024, with the first being Inside Out 2. The new Pixar film currently sits at a domestic box office of $652.9 million, and a global box office of $1.697 billion, making it 2024’s highest-grossing movie.




Now, Deadline reports that Aron has stated that “people in the know” have informed him that Moana 2 is likely going to outpace Inside Out 2 at the box office, becoming Disney’s most successful movie of the year. This claim comes just as the upcoming sequel is projected to make over $100 million domestically during its five-day Thanksgiving weekend release. Since this number hovers right around Inside Out 2‘s $154.2 million debut, this could be a key sign of the AMC CEO’s prediction coming true.
