Warning: This article contains spoilers for Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man episode 4.The Marvel Cinematic Universe version of Peter Parker now has company, as Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man has introduced a new Peter from Marvel Studios, and the latest batch of episodes of the animated series showed how Spider-Man gets a surprising new costume. Tom Holland does not voice Peter Parker in the show, with Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man‘s cast being led by Hudson Thames, who previously voiced Peter in What If…? I don’t have a problem with that, as Thames manages to bring a classic tone to his versions of Spider-Man.
Despite not being played by Tom Holland nor the show taking place in the MCU’s main timeline, Marvel Studios has filled Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man with MCU references. I think it is pretty clear that we are looking at an alternate universe take on the MCU — one that goes for a more classic comic book route in terms of characters and stories for its version of Spider-Man. In the latest episodes, we have a character like Norman Osborn reacting to the Sokovia Accords, which is wild to see. However, the most surprising event was Spider-Man’s costume change.
2025 Provides A Very Different Spider-Man Suit For The MCU
The Alternate Universe Has Peter Parker Branch Out
I loved how the alternate universe MCU events were used thematically to prop this Spider-Man’s story forward. As they discuss the Avengers’ split and the Sokovia Accords from Captain America: Civil War, Norman Osborn explains how Peter Parker is his own person and the first in a new generation of heroes. As with any coming-of-age story, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is all about Peter Parker finding himself as both a person and a hero. To that end, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man episode 4 takes on the task of finding Peter a new Spider-Man costume to define his identity.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has had some amazing movies & series and some disappointing releases throughout Phase 5, which ends later this year.
With no money and only scraps to work with, Peter had been using a homemade suit akin to Tom Holland’s from Spider-Man: Homecoming. I’m enjoying the mentor relationship between Norman Osborn and Spider-Man. With the power of Oscorp, Peter tried on different Spider-Man suits throughout episode 4. However, three of them failed due to a cape getting stuck mid-action, wings being hard to work with, and a dark suit being scary for kids. I thought the sequence where Peter tries out his suits was hilarious. Finally, he settles on a more traditional Spider-Man suit, but it is white and blue.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’s Comic Inspiration Makes Its New Suit Even Cooler
The Fantastic Four Are Involved In The Comics
While it is not his traditional red-and-blue color scheme, I love this new Spider-Man suit. Its technology allows Peter to have more help on the field from either Norman or Harry Osborn, also providing him with other enhancements. There is also the fact that the new Spider-Man suit just looks cool with a slick and clean design. What makes it even better is that Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man‘s new superhero costume is inspired by one of the hero’s most exciting Marvel Comics suits, the Future Foundation suit.
The new Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man costume is pretty much a dead ringer for Marvel Comics’ Future Foundation Spider-Man suit, with the only major change being that the animated series changes the comics’ white and black color scheme to white and blue. In the comics, this is a Spider-Man suit given to the hero by Reed Richards when Spider-Man joins the Future Foundation to honor Johnny Storm, the Fantastic Four’s Human Torch, who had died. It is made of third-generation Unstable Molecules, allowing Spidey to change how it looks with his mind, which the animated suit has not done yet.

The Marvel Studios Animated Series Presents Similar Themes
While the Fantastic Four do not play a role in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, the animated series’ take on the Future Foundation suit is great. It keeps in line with one of Marvel’s biggest geniuses using advanced technology to help the hero, only switching Reed Richards for Norman Osborn. It serves as the perfect representation of a new era for the character, with Peter Parker now firmly acting as Spider-Man and having the resources to help others. On that note, the Future Foundation-inspired suit already helped Peter greatly when saving people.

Peter’s new suit is fireproof, which allows the hero to save a civilian in a burning car seconds before it explodes. I believe we will see many new abilities emerge as Peter tests out his Future Foundation-like Spider-Man suit in next week’s batch of episodes. With things ramping up and characters like Doc Ock, Scorpion, and more on the rise, Spider-Man will soon find himself in non-stop action. Based on how trailers already revealed a classic red and blue suit, I think the Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man costume might be able to change its look like the Future Foundation suit.
