Peter Weber Reveals Why Destination X Is “The Most Difficult Competition I’ve Ever Done”

Destination X’s newest cast member, Peter Weber, has a reality TV history that all seems to have led him to this competition, and he chatted with Screen Rant about the most difficult challenge he’s faced yet. While some are still lingering on Peter’s appearance as the lead of The Bachelor season 24, most have recently seen him as one of the fiercest competitors on The Traitors season 2. Despite facing some difficult public relationship challenges during his time on The Bachelor, Peter’s time on The Traitors truly helped define who he is for viewers, setting the record straight about him.

While Peter was a Faithful in the game, it became clear that he was one of the more strategic players in the castle as the season continued. Though some ultimately became flustered by his gameplay, Peter was consistently tied to his moral compass in a way that was ultimately endearing, albeit somewhat irritating. Making choices for the greater good of the game, Peter’s ability to move through a completely different style of reality TV was surprising in a lot of ways, but made it clear that he’d be able to work his way through any genre of reality TV show.

Now, coming into Destination X season 1 with Love Island USA’s JaNa Craig, Peter’s going into a totally new competition that has very different parameters than he’s experience in the past. Thankfully for Peter, his career as a pilot, which at one point earned him the nickname Pilot Pete, has been something he’s long been passionate about. With travel knowledge in his back pocket, Destination X’s geo-guesser style gameplay seemed like the perfect pick. Despite coming into the game late, Peter seemed to be ready to take on the challenge, sharing his take on Destination X’s difficulties with Screen Rant.

Screen Rant: Your time on Reality TV has been a really eclectic mix. Other than, you know, having pilot training and being able to figure out where you are, what drew you to Destination X?

Peter Weber: I think, you know, for me, it just seemed like the most incredible adventure. And it definitely did not disappoint. I look back on my time, I just I truly I think of it as just like the most insane experience of a lifetime. And, you know, something I feel so blessed to have been able to be a part of. Obviously, travels, you know, been a huge passion of my mind for a very long time. And it’s, you know, involved in my career day to day everyday work and getting kind of like the competitive gamer bug that I think I got from The Traitors. This is just like a no brainer. And I was like, I have got to go do this. And yeah, I’m just I could not be happier with the whole experience.

Reality TV is more popular than ever. With so many to choose from, here are some of the best reality TV shows to stream or watch right now.

Screen Rant: That’s so exciting to hear. Okay, before we jump into real reality TV stuff, I feel like I would be remiss not to ask – how did your pilot career help you in this game?

Peter: Yeah, I think there’s like two ways. And I thought it would probably have been a little bit more. But the creators of this show, they do such a great job of making it’s truly like, when I say the most difficult thing I’ve ever done, it really is, you know, so many twists and turns. And even when you’re getting information, it could be legit information, it could also be a red herring. And so you have to decipher that. And that’s why alliances where they come into play, like you cannot win this game alone.

Obviously, one person can only win at the end. But to get there, it’s it’s a team effort. But to answer your question with piloting related skills, I would say the biggest things were, I tried to use celestial navigation as much as possible. And that was, again, kind of hit or miss, because you had to have clear skies, you had to have access at night to be able to see outside and you had to be able to see the North Star. And so when I was able to do that, I kind of ok. Going into the game kind of just implanted in my memory, a couple of key cities around Europe and their latitude. And I couldn’t tell longitude without any like actual calculations going on. But latitude wise, I was able to get a general consensus that like, okay, I think I’m probably on this level. And let me use any other information now that I’ve gathered to compare it with that to give my best educated guess. So that was a big one.

And then I would say that one that came into play was just recognizing certain departure corridors. When we fly from an airport, we’re always taken off and was called a SID, a standard instrument departure procedure. So every airplane departs on that exact same path. And I was actually able to recognize a certain departure procedure from an airport I had flown out of a couple of years prior. And that really helped me because the location we were in, it was very, it was a huge red herring to where we actually were. So I would say those were the two biggest times that it came into play.

Peter Found Destination X To Be The Toughest Competition He’s Ever Played

It Had Several Facets That Were Challenging

While Peter got his start on reality TV dating shows, transitioning over to The Traitors showed viewers how adept he could be in a social strategy game. Now, bringing travel knowledge and a geo-guesser style game into the mix, Peter shared how difficult he found Destination X to be. Whether it was creating bonds with the contestants who had already come into the game and created their own relationships or strategizing with his fellow late entry, JaNa, Peter shared it was tough to jump into the mix of the new competition.

Screen Rant: Nice, so it did help a bit [laughs] Coming from The Bachelor, The Traitors, what did you find to be the biggest difference in competing on Destination X?

Peter: Destination X was just by far the most difficult competition I’ve ever done. And for a variety of reasons, just having your senses deprived of you, that’s obviously huge. And to not be able to see anything was extremely difficult. I think the close quarters of having to compete with, you know, a bunch of other people in, you know, a small bus, it’s a lot different than being in a castle or being able to take a walk outside and get some actual privacy and not have to whisper and, you know, maybe come off sketchy because you’re trying to, you know, get some information across to someone else. That was a huge difference. And I think just, you know, I think similarities wise, yeah, there’s a lot of guessing kind of that is involved in The Traitors, a lot of guessing that’s involved in this game as well with Destination X.

But there was this one also just made it so difficult because you’d get information, you do challenges, and you think you’re getting solid information to give you a legit clue of where you’re at. But that clue even could have been a red herring, and it’s up to you to decipher. And so that’s what made the, you know, having alliances so crucial in this game, you could not do it on your own, because you always had to compare information and see what other people thought you weren’t going to pick up everything. Obviously, you’re trying to be as observant as possible. But there’s just so much going on that, you know, alliances were an absolute huge necessity. And the fact that what’s different, I think, about The Traitors is that you can win as a group or you can win solo, but this one is only gonna be one winner. So even though you create those alliances, and that trust, at some point, there will be a little bit of betrayal, backstabbing just naturally has to happen for the course of the game to complete. And, but yes, all that is what kind of came together to make it such a fun experience.

Screen Rant: I’m very excited to see you get into the mix. Speaking about alliances and other players, you really got familiar with social strategy when you were on The Traitors. What did you learn from that experience that you brought into this game?

Peter: I think I just learned truly how important relationships are to succeed in a competition game. I think you can sometimes have this bravado where you think you can be the lone wolf and go off and do this all on your own. And I just, I’m a firm believer, that’s not the case. I guess what’s kind of the bummer about this that you can do all that, and then it’s still at the end, only one wins. But I think just really relying on those relationships and learning how to like really read people as best as possible. You know, we kind of, JaNa and I kind of come in with a little bit of a disadvantage just because everyone else has already started to establish some bonds and relationships. And so we had to A, figure out if there were any openings, any way to start working with people at that point, if they even wanted to. And if they did, or are they just feeding us BS? Is it a lie? Are they giving us accurate information? So I think just the aspect of being able to read people too, I took probably some skills from the The Traitors and applied them here.

Peter Got To Come Into The Game With An Ally

JaNa Craig Joined Destination X With Peter

Screen Rant: Definitely helpful – you mentioned coming in with JaNa. You guys probably felt like you were at more of a disadvantage just coming in a little late. Did you have the chance to meet beforehand to try to strategize with her?

Peter: We really only had our first intro on the way to the location that we were going to go to, to join the game. And that’s where we kind of just had a little bit of a chance to kind of just chat and brief up a plan. I think we both went into it realizing, okay, so our best bet here is to work together from the beginning and establish a trust and see how far that can take us. And it was a joy to play with her. She’s, you know, an absolute sweetheart and, you know, extremely smart, extremely intelligent. We definitely both contributed and helped each other out. And yeah, it was, I really enjoyed playing with her.

Screen Rant: That’s exciting. Going in with dynamics set up and with people already having those pre-existing relationships, did you find it hard to kind of fit in and find a space for yourself?

Peter: It was kind of, you know, you get into the bus and, you know, immediately it’s like a crash course of who are you? What are you doing here? What do you know? Like all this information. And it’s like a little bit intimidating at first. And you know, you’re trying to decipher, okay, who maybe seems like they, they are open to working together. Who’s like, you know, who’s kind of just bluffing you right now. And it took a little bit of time to kind of find, I think for me specifically find my footing. But I just knew that that was going to be key. And that was my number one priority from the very beginning of, okay, who can I work with? And I can’t do this alone. So who am I working with? Who am I going to trust? Once I do get that trust, I am going to give that trust to them for the rest of the game. And so you know, that’s a chance that you take. I kind of did that with The Traitors too. And, but I just, for me, it’s been a strategy. I think that’s worked like don’t, once you commit, don’t second guess and you know, just commit to playing, playing it out with them.

Screen Rant: Looking forward to seeing more of it! So, we’ve seen you do The Bachelor, we’ve seen you do The Traitors. We’re now seeing you do this. What’s next for you in terms of reality TV, what’s left to tackle?

Peter: [laughs] I don’t know. I’ve never really been someone that, you know, I’ve been very blessed to have all these incredible opportunities. I’ve never really looked for them. They’ve all kind of just, you know, fallen into my lap and I’ve always been a yes man. So I’ve said yes to, I guess most of them. And I don’t know if something else comes across where there’s no way I can say no to it, I’ll definitely, you know, do my due diligence and check it out. But I also like, I am fine. You know, I don’t need to be, I feel like do, you know, I’m very happy with my career and that keeps me plenty busy too. So, you know, if it makes sense, if it’s the right fit, I’ll always give it a shot.
