Pokémon Legends: Arceus Player Uses Ghost Spawn Method, Gets Luckiest Shiny Outcome Possible

A Pokémon Legends: Arceus player has stumbled upon the luckiest possible spawn using a unique exploit. In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, one of the rarest Pokémon players may seek is a Shiny Alpha Gardevoir. It’s incredibly difficult to find even one of these precious Pokémon, causing some players to rely on exploits that increase the likelihood of rare variants appearing. But one player was able to get not one, but two Shiny Gardevoirs to appear at once – and the wonders don’t stop there.

While attempting to get a Shiny Alpha Gardevoir in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Reddit user Shoddy_Ad9859 managed to cause two Shiny Alpha Gardevoirs (one male and one female) to spawn at once using the ghost spawn method. This provoked disbelief from the player, who expected a single Shiny Alpha Gardevoir to appear if they were lucky, only to find two. The unique catching methods players can use in Legends: Arceus also mean they would’ve been able to capture both at once, instead of just one.

This has provoked immense jealousy from the rest of the community, many of whom can’t even find a single Shiny Alpha Gardevoir, let alone two. But there’s a lot more to this occurence than luck – although there is quite a bit of luck involved, too.

Not One Shiny Gardevoir Spawned, But Two

Using The Ghost Spawn Method Creates Rare Spawns

Original poster Shoddy_Ad9859 claimed they were using the “ghost spawn method” when the two Gardevoirs appeared, which does ever so slightly increase the likelihood of rare Pokémon spawning, although not by much. This is a unique exploit in which players wait until near the end of an outbreak wave, when some Pokémon remain in the field, but no new ones can spawn in. If they then leave the area and return, there will be a different set of Pokémon there when they return. This can be repeated as many times as there are waves in the outbreak.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus’ Best Starter Evolutions

Every starter Pokémon has its pros and cons in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, but the final Hisuian evolutions can give players advantages late in the game.

In short, players can keep leaving the outbreak area, then returning, until a particular Pokémon spawns. This is a common method used to get rare Shinies to spawn, and what the original poster hoped would help them catch the Shiny Alpha Gardevoir they wanted. Their initial plan was just to wipe out the other non-Shinies so they could get a screenshot of the first Gardevoir alone, but as soon as they did that, a second one spawned.

The rest was sheer luck, and the odds, as calculated by user MonkeysAreMonkeys, were exceptionally low. According to their number crunching, if the player already had a regular Shiny Gardevoir, and had completed its Pokédex entry, and was Shiny hunting during an outbreak, the likelihood of these two Pokémon appearing would be roughly 1 in 16,000.

In other words, a player is more likely to be struck by lightning than to see two Shiny Alpha Gardevoirs spawn in at the same time. The actual likelihood may have been even lower, as Shoddy_Ad9859 admitted they hadn’t even completed Gardevoir’s dex.

Our Take: Nothing Like The Feeling Of Bliss When Luck Strikes In Pokémon

The Highs & Lows Of Pokémon’s RNG

Four of the Legendary Pokemon in Legends: Arceus

As much as the franchise has changed over the years, Pokémon games still rely quite a bit on random number generation. Pokémon still spawn randomly, and, while exploits like ghost spawning allow players to game the odds to some extent, shiny hunting almost inevitably results in at least a little bit of disappointment.

But there are those moments, rare by design, when the stars align, and players get exactly the Pokémon they were looking for (or better, two of them at the same time). These sudden strokes of luck are immensely satisfying, and make all the grinding worth it. Sure, it can be difficult to see others catch two of the Pokémon you want at once, but it can also be inspiring. The satisfaction that player felt must have been palpable, and is exactly the kind of thing that keeps us coming back to Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
