Pokémon TCG Collectors Have A Second Chance To Get This Sold-Out Card, But As A New Exclusive

The Pokémon Company International has revealed a variant of the 2024 Worlds Pikachu promotional card for the Pokémon Trading Card Game, giving some who missed it the first time around a new chance to acquire it. The original version was available in August as a gift-with-purchase at select retailers, as well as at the Pokémon Center online, though it’s now sold out.

The new card is an almost exact reproduction of the 2024 Worlds promo card, showcasing Pikachu and Mew in the heat of battle against a Honolulu-inspired background. Players who take part in Gym stores in Singapore, Malaysia, and the Philippines will be able to get their hands on the card from this week, beginning Sept 16 (via Pokebeach). Unfortunately for those who missed on the Worlds card, this new promo card won’t feature the iconic Worlds logo.

The new 2024 Pokémon Worlds card was revealed in July of this year, and since the World Championships were held in Honolulu, Hawaii, the background of a bright blue sea is fitting, however, the new edition of the card hasn’t impressed everyone. Commenters on the Pokebeach website questioned why the card needed to exist at all, with user Nirvanna21 writing: “I think if you have a world promo, you may as well get the one with the logo.” User Grim Thoughts echoes a similar sentiment, asking: “Dunno why this exists, but sure lol.”

The Original Worlds Card Is Now Hard To Purchase

The original version of the 2024 Worlds Card was up for grabs in August via The Pokémon Center website, or with purchase at Gamestop. Those who made it into the top 100 in this year’s Worlds Fantasy Team contest within the Pokémon TCG or Pokémon VGC category also received the card. The Pokémon Center website is currently out of stock of the card, as is likely the case with individual Gamestop stores. This might be the driving reason why the new version has been released, but if so, limiting its availability to Singapore, Malaysia, and the Philippines doesn’t make the card any easier to acquire for the majority of players.

These promotional cards are some of the most sought-after, as they contain unique art styles and very few of them are on the market for long. As such, some collectors will likely want to get their hands not only on the original Worlds 2024 card, but also the new stamp-free version. While the latter won’t be for everyone, it’s still another promo card to collect in the journey of creating the ultimate Pokémon TCG collection.
