Pokémon TCG Pocket Needs To Make One Easy Fix To Promo Cards

Pokémon TCG Pocket has some fantastic promo cards, but the game needs to implement an easy fix so players can enjoy them. Since its release, Pokémon TCG Pocket has rolled out a series of promo cards. Some cards feature alternate artwork, while others are brand new to the game. However, the recent release of a new Venusaur promo card highlights a problem that needs to be fixed so that players can fully enjoy the cards.

The new Venusaur promo card released as part of the Venusaur Drop Event is a full art card. This marks the first full art card released as a standard promo card, which can be obtained by opening special promo booster packs. The Venusaur card features the artwork of the Pokémon sleeping on a porch and is illustrated by Kuroimori, a popular TCG artist. However, the card can’t be fully enjoyed because of the placement of a promo stamp placed right next to Venusaur’s body. There’s an easy fix to this issue, though – Pokémon TCG Pocket should give players the option of toggling the promo stamp on and off.

Promo Stamps Are A Poor Fit For Full Art Cards

While promo stamps are a long-standing tradition in the Pokémon Trading Card Game, they’re usually featured on standard cards, not full art cards. Outside of the promo cards found in Elite Trainer Boxes sold from the online Pokémon Center, the physical Pokémon TCG has not produced any full art cards with a stamp. The Venusaur card highlights a problem with stamping full art cards. If the stamp is particularly blocky or large (like the promo stamp in Pokémon TCG Pocket), it pulls focus away from the art itself.

This represents a newer problem for the game. Because most promo cards in Pokémon TCG use standard art treatment, the promo stamps don’t really pull the focus from the artwork. However, stamping full-art cards means that designers have to take into account the composition of the artwork. Otherwise, the promo stamp can push focus away from the intended subject, as in the case of the new Venusaur promo card.

While there’s no way to remove promo stamps from physical Pokémon cards, the Pokémon TCG Pocket app has some advantages as a digital app. We’ve seen the game use immersive art and 3D effects in a way that the physical Pokémon TCG could never pull off. As such, it should be an easy fix for Pokémon TCG Pocket to implement a toggle to remove the promo stamp from the card. That way, the promo art can be fully enjoyed by players.

One of the strengths of Pokémon TCG Pocket is its amazing art cards. Unfortunately, the promo stamps are a detriment to players who are not enjoying them fully. Assuming that Pokémon TCG Pocket continues to release more full art cards as promos (and they should), they will need to find a solution to the stamp issue. Either full-art promo cards need to be selected with artwork that the promo stamp won’t diminish, or the game’s developers should allow the stamp to be toggled on or off.
