As part of the “Boundaries of Antiquity” side quest in Avowed, you’ll be tasked with tracking down a lost dwarven expedition crew in the Slumbering Fields. They’re being held captive by a Delemgan named Weeping Willow, who refuses to release the expedition crew until the source of poison in the streams is dealt with. You’ll have quite a few options here, and the consequences won’t be immediately clear. Should you choose to attack Weeping Willow, you’ll get one of Avowed’s unique accessories, the Mortal Haven amulet.
Both Weeping Willow and Raluka, the leader of the Dwarven expedition team, want the same thing – clean water. Ultimately, you will take the same fundamental steps in completing this quest, deciding the fate of the Dwarves, Solace Keep, and Weeping Willow. Clearing the poison from the water and removing the blockage from the aqueduct are essential steps. To clear the poison, you’ll have to find its source; an ancient artifact possessed by Avowed‘s Goddess Woedica herself.
What Happens If You Kill The Weeping Willow Delemgan
Weeping Willow Drops The Mortal Haven Unique Amulet
If you decide that violence is the answer, you can kill Weeping Willow when you first meet her in Slumbering Fields. In this case, you’ll free the dwarven crew, and Raluka will ask you to purify the water and clear the aqueduct so they have access to fresh water at Solace. When you get deep into the ancient ruins, you’ll eventually come to the poison’s source – the Goddess Woedica. Regardless of what you say, you will destroy the artifact and clear the poison from the water in the process.
You will also have the option to kill Weeping Willow after destroying Woedica if you fail to come up with a compromise with Raluka. Weeping Willow considers the dwarves an “invasive species,” and while she can be reasoned with, the only way to receive the Mortal Haven amulet is to kill her. This amulet casts Arcane Veil every 20 seconds while you’re below 25% health. Regardless of when you kill Weeping Willow, you’ll have to clear the aqueduct and return to Raluka to complete the quest, providing access to fresh water for Solace Keep and clearing the poison in the process.
What Happens If You Help Weeping Willow
Raluka & Weeping Willow Can Play Nice If You Convince Them To
If you decide to help Weeping Willow, you’ll investigate the ruins just the same, finding and destroying Woedica and hearing about Sapadal’s malicious intentions. After destroying Woedica, you can safely swim in the water and return to Weeping Willow & Raluka to devise a compromise regarding the expedition crew’s presence at the aqueduct. Weeping Willow will insist that Raluka and the dwarves relocate downstream after the aqueduct is cleared but can be convinced otherwise with high enough Perception (12) or with origin dialogue such as the Vanguard Scout.

Should You Kill Or Spare Captain Carnet In Avowed?
Captain Carnet is a leader of Avowed’s Steel Garrote that violently gutted Vemas Rogera’s nephew, but should you help him exact vengence and kill her?
Alternatively, you can agree with Weeping Willow that the dwarves are better off elsewhere, and Raluka will pull you aside at this point and ask you to kill the Delemgan. No matter what you decide, you’ll have to clear the aqueduct and then return to complete the quest, either sending Raluka and the dwarves downstream or allowing them to stay and live in harmony. The choice to spare Weeping Willow and strike a compromise between the two results in the same amount of experience gained from killing Weeping Willow.
You Should Help Weeping Willow & Raluka In Avowed
Sparing Weeping Willow Is The Best Option Unless You Need The Amulet
Unless your character build in Avowed would really benefit from the Mortal Haven amulet, there’s no real reason to kill the Weeping Willow, even if you think kidnapping the dwarves was a bit extreme. Ultimately, the rewards are the same, and there is no additional benefit to killing Weeping Willow outside the amulet, which is only going to be useful for a few niche build types. From a narrative perspective, you can make both sides happy in multiple ways, with both being able to live in harmony now that the aqueduct is cleared or even compromising with the dwarves moving downstream.

There are numerous rewards in the surrounding area that are accessible whether you spare or kill Weeping Willow, and the experience gained is the same regardless of your choices. The Mortal Haven amulet is nice, but unless it’s something you absolutely can’t live without, you’ll save yourself an unnecessary fight. There are a handful of attribute-locked dialogue choices throughout this scenario, but only the final Perception check with Weeping Willow has any real impact on things. Overall, your best bet is to spare Weeping Willow in Avowed and help both her and Raluka by striking a compromise.
