Silent Hill 2 Remake: How To Beat Flesh Lip (Boss Guide)

Quick Links

Fans of the Silent Hill franchise have been looking forward to the Silent Hill 2 Remake since it was first announced back in 2022. As a remake of the highly acclaimed 2001 game of the same name, players can expect new areas to explore and expanded areas of old, as well as an overhaul of the graphics, camera, and combat systems. All this combined will make the Silent Hill 2 Remake feel like a new game, even for players of the original.

Silent Hill 2 is big on boss battles, but the remake doesn’t change that. One of the first bosses players will encounter is Flesh Lip. Seasoned Silent Hill players will remember Flesh Lip from the original game. Despite it keeping its original design, much of the mechanics of fighting Flesh Lip has changed.

How To Encounter Flesh Lip

An Argument With Laura Ends With You Locked In A Room

The location where James Sunderland encounters Flesh Lip in the Silent Hill 2 Remake hasn’t changed from the original. Flesh Lip is found at the end of Brookhaven Hospital after encountering Pyramid Head. James finds Laura in the hospital and engages in a brief argument with her.

Make sure to finish exploring Brookhaven Hospital, as once you beat Flesh Lip, you won’t be able to explore the hospital again.

After the argument, Laura will lock James inside a room in the hospital. After a cutscene, which includes part of the ceiling falling in, Flesh Lip comes down from the ceiling inside a rusty metal frame. The Flesh Lip appears bloated and deformed, with human limbs protruding from its top and bottom and a pair of large lips.

How To Beat Flesh Lip

Phase 1 And Phase 2 Require Different Strategies

Flesh Lip is a cunning foe that requires an excellent strategy to beat. In the original Silent Hill 2, James would have to fight against three Flesh Lips, two simultaneously and then a third one after defeating the first two. However, in the remake, there is only one Flesh Lip to beat. Unlike the 2001 version, Flesh Lip comes with actual moves instead of just trying to grab and throttle James, which is a significant change for the remaster.

This guide is for standard difficulty. Hard difficulty may require different strategies, as Flesh Lip will be more challenging to beat.

As shown in Champs Network‘s video, Flesh Lip will have two phases in the remake. In the first phase, It will be in a metal cage. In the second phase, It will break free. Each phase will introduce different attacks.

Phase

Attacks

Phase 1

  • Ceiling Drop: Ceiling tiles break off, and Flesh Lip violently dangles and swings down, thrashing toward James.
  • Arm Strike: Flesh Lip swings at James, thrashing and swiping its limbs. This attack can be performed from the ceiling or floor.

Phase 2

  • Roar: Flesh Lip deals a loud roar, causing James to stagger.
  • Spindle Sweep: Performed either from the ceiling or floor, Flesh Lip swipes its limbs around in a sweeping motion.
  • Charging Skewer: Flesh Lip rushes at James and thrusts forward with one of its limbs after a brief charge.

You’ll want to focus on breaking the frame to expose Flesh Lip to more attacks when in its cage. First, keep an eye on the ceiling. When the tiles are about to break, they’ll start shaking. Take this as your queue to move away.

Broken tiles remain broken, so use the broken tiles to keep an eye on Flesh Lip.

When Flesh Lip dangles from the ceiling, its hands are exposed. Shoot its hands, specifically, the one holding onto the supports. Hitting its hand will cause Flesh Lip to drop, stunned. Use melee attacks to deal some good damage.

Save your ammo for Phase 2, when you can more easily damage the freed Flesh Lip.

Once the stun wears off, Flesh Lip will return to the ceiling, continue dashing around, and cause more tiles to collapse. To avoid Flesh Lip, continuously move around and watch for shaky tiles.

Continue shooting it down from the ceiling and attacking it with your melee weapon. After taking enough damage, Flesh Lip will shed its cage and enter Phase 2. Now things get a little more difficult. During Phase 2, Flesh Lip will be able to attack when stunned. Its range of attack will also increase drastically, mainly sticking to ground attacks.

With its arms revealed, Flesh Lip unlocks new attacks. Flesh Lip won’t hold back, and its movement speed will allow it to easily chase James down, so be careful and do your best to dodge incoming attacks. Now that Flesh Lip is on the ground and all its arms are exposed, it can easily reach around the room. There’s nowhere to hide, so stay alert and dodge.

Bloober Team assuages fears with the Silent Hill 2 remake, a pitch-perfect adaptation of the original with lots to offer both fans and first-timers.

Despite its reach, you should still do your best to keep as great a distance from Flesh Lip as possible. This is because its devastating spin attack is fast and can seriously hurt James. Avoid melee attacks and use your gun to shoot at Flesh Lip.

While Phase 2 Flesh Lip will primarily be on the ground, it can still swing back up into the ceiling. Flesh Lip will use this time to position itself above James and dropdown. Keep your eyes on Flesh Lip at all times and avoid this surprise attack at all costs.

Continue shooting Flesh Lip, chipping away at its health. Phase 2 Flesh Lip is faster and more aggressive, but without the protection of the cage, it’s easy to hurt. Once you deal enough damage, Flesh Lip will be no more, and you’ll be able to progress through the Silent Hill 2 Remake, leaving the Brookhaven Hospital behind.
