Star Wars and Marvel Comics have announced a collection of upcoming series centered around the Battle of Jakku, the major final conflict of the Galactic Civil War. While Marvel’s current and canonical Star Wars comics have largely been set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, this era of storytelling is about to end with the 50th issues of Marvel’s Star Wars and Darth Vader runs, both of which are set to be published in September. However, October will debut a brand-new era with stories that will help bridge the gap between the original and sequel trilogies.
The Battle of Jakku was the culminating conflict in the Star Wars timeline that truly cemented the dawn of the New Republic with the shattered Empire’s defeat. While there have already been canonical stories that detail certain elements of the definitive battle, plenty more tales can still be told, particularly regarding the roles played by the galaxy’s biggest original trilogy heroes. To that end, Star Wars and Marvel have announced three limited series focused on the Battle of the Jakku, beginning with the four-issue Star Wars: Battle of Jakku – Insurgency Rising. What We Already Know About The Battle of Jakku
The Final Conflict In The Galactic Civil War
Ahead of Insurgency Rising and the other two upcoming series whose titles have yet to be revealed, Star Wars has already revealed some key details surrounding the Battle of Jakku which can be seen in EA’s Battlefront II, various novels such as Aftermath trilogy by Chuck Wendig, as well as in official Star Wars encyclopedias and timeline guides. The primary events of the Battle of Jakku include the bulk of the shattered Empire coming together for one last stand, though various pockets ultimately retreated into the Unknown Regions, including Admiral Rae Sloane and Brendol Hux, whose forces would eventually become the future First Order.
The New Republic fleet (led by Admiral Ackbar) proved themselves the victors both in orbit and on Jakku’s surface, now covered in the wreckage of destroyed Imperial and New Republic ships alike. This allowed for the New Republic’s new galactic government to truly begin with the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War and the signing of the Galactic Concordance with the Imperials’ official surrender. However, it seems as though more engagements and adventures within this massive campaign are set to be revealed thanks to these upcoming Marvel series.

Now, Star Wars’ classic original trilogy trio will finally be taking center stage as they take on this new faction known as the Defiant Imperial, surviving Inquisitors, and more dangers that made Jakku one of the most important battlegrounds in the entire Star Wars timeline.
