Sunny episode 6 introduces several new twists and turns that shed more light on Hime’s motives and Masa’s potential whereabouts. Based on Irish writer Colin O’Sullivan’s book, The Dark Manual, Apple TV+’s Sunny presents a unique take on AI, where it neither critiques technological advancements nor supports them. After setting the stage for a gripping mystery drama in its early episodes, Sunny seemingly slows in pace in episode 5, allowing audiences to empathize with its titular robot character.
However, just when one grows attached to the seemingly sentient robot, she gets abducted by the yakuza. This is where Sunny‘s episode 6 begins, following Suzie’s pursuit to find her husband’s home robot. Towards the closing moments of the Apple TV+ sci-fi show‘s episode 6, it becomes evident why Sunny was taken away and what Hime wanted from her.

10 Noriko Intentionally Gets Herself Arrested
Noriko Struggles To Deal With Her Loneliness
In Sunny episode 6’s opening moments, Noriko enters a store, asks the cashier to pay attention to her, leaves the store with a cart full of groceries without paying for them, and then eats one of the items while staring at the cashier. For obvious reasons, the cashier calls the police, and she gets arrested. Noriko seemingly does this because she grows increasingly tired of feeling lonely after Masa’s death. Towards Sunny episode 5‘s ending moments, she even visits Suzie out of loneliness, hoping she will give her some company.
However, when Suzie is not around, Noriko returns home and calls a mysterious man, who seems to be Masa’s biological father, Hiromasa Matsumoto. When the man also ignores her calls, her desperation to have company leads her to jail. Noriko’s present arc seems to echo Masa’s backstory, who spent many years in isolation as a hikikomori.
9 Mixxy & Suzie Report Sunny Missing
The Police Do Not Help Suzie
Suzie discovers someone abducted Sunny in the Apple TV+ show’s episode 5’s final moments. When she finds a note that warns her to stay away from the police, she suspects it is Hime’s doing. However, despite being warned, she reports Sunny’s disappearance to the police. To her dismay, instead of filing an official complaint, the police officer at the station refuses to take her too seriously and also seems afraid of the yakuza.
He questions Suzie and her family’s involvement with shady people but does not seem keen on helping her. After a brief argument with the officer, Suzie realizes that reaching out to the police is a massive mistake. Before she leaves, the officer asks her to visit her local “Lost & Found,” which is where many lost home bots like Sunny are usually found.

8 Hime’s Men Capture Suzie
Suzie Starts Questioning Mixxy’s Motives
After receiving a mysterious note that instructs her to go to a fixed location, Suzie decides to follow her newfound lead. However, Mixxy realizes that getting embroiled in the yakuza’s business could land them in some serious trouble. When she backs off from accompanying Suzie to the instructed location, Suzie, like Sunny, doubts Mixxy’s motives. However, this, too, does not convince Mixxy to join her. Moments later, when Suzie finally arrives at the location alone, two men capture her and take her to Hime.
7 Suzie Asks Hime About Her Involvement In Four Circle Five
Hime Seems (Or Pretends To Be) Ignorant About The Place Crash
When Suzie finally comes face to face with Hime, she confronts her and asks her about her involvement in four circle five. Hime claims to know nothing about it and seems clueless when Suzie accuses her of being responsible for her husband and son’s disappearance. However, even though Suzie denies knowing anything about Masa, several flashbacks in the show suggest that she must have known things about him that Suzie did not. While Suzie did not even know the truth about Masa’s work in robotics, Hime very well knew what he was working on at his company.
6 Hime Questions Suzie’s Relationship With Masa
Suzie Defends Herself Despite Having Her Doubts
After Suzie accuses Hime of orchestrating Masa’s death, Hime fights back by questioning her relationship with Masa. She confronts her for not knowing what her husband even did for a living and claims that she did not really know Masa before he disappeared. While Suzie, too, cannot help but wonder whether she knows Masa, she defends herself by claiming she knows him.
5 Hime’s Father Passes Away
Her Father’s Death Prompts Her To Desperately Find The Dark Manual
Moments later, one of Hime’s men shows up and informs her that her father has passed away. As a result, Hime grows increasingly desperate to break into Masa’s laptop because she believes it contains The Dark Manual. Although Hime’s motives remain unclear, the Apple TV+ show’s previous episode revealed that Hime wants to be her father’s successor as the yakuza leader. However, her father does not consider her worthy enough and wants to hand over his empire to Hime’s cousin, Jin, who has been his associate for years.
He also tells Hime that she can only have a shot at winning his empire if she manages to find The Dark Manual. Therefore, when Suzie refuses to comply with her requests, Hime resorts to desperate measures and commands her man to take control. Things start taking an ugly turn when Hime loses her cool and pressures Suzie to enter Masa’s password.
4 Hime Threatens To Kill Mixxy To Make Suzie Break Into Masa’s Computer
Suzie Agrees To Break Into The Laptop To Protect Mixxy
When Suzie struggles to figure out Masa’s password, Hime pressures her by asking her men to visit Mixxy. Suzie realizes that if she does not help her, Hime will not think twice before harming her and Mixxy. As a result, she thinks hard and tries to figure out what the password may be. Although her initial attempt to access the laptop fails, she eventually cracks it.
3 Masa’s Password Turns Out To Be His Real Father’s Name
The 2nd Authentication On His Laptop Is Gesture-Based
After failing to figure out Masa’s password the first time, Suzie stresses her brain to crack the code. That is when it hits her that his password could be his biological father’s name since he helped him get out of his hikikomori phase and return to the real world. When she initially enters the password, it seems like the laptop denies her access. However, moments later, the screen changes and asks for a gesture-based authentication. When Suzie raises her middle finger to the laptop’s camera, it allows her access.
The fact that Masa kept one of Suzie’s gestures as his gesture-based password suggests his feelings for her were genuine.
While the real reason why Masa kept his father’s name as his password remains unknown, the middle finger gesture comes from Suzie’s habit of raising the finger to him every time he bids her farewell. The fact that Masa kept one of Suzie’s gestures as his gesture-based password suggests his feelings for her were genuine. It also seems to hint that he wanted Suzie to access his laptop before Hime.
2 Suzie Visits Noriko In Jail
Noriko Refuses To Leave
When Suzie visits Noriko in jail, Noriko does not seem too keen about leaving as staying there with other inmates helps her deal with her loneliness. Even when Suzie insists on bailing her out, Noriko accuses her of not caring about her earlier. Suzie eventually gives in and leaves Noriko by herself. However, before she departs from the jail, she informs Noriko about her recent encounters with the yakuza, which seems to intrigue Noriko. Since Noriko previously kept Masa’s father’s identity a secret from her, she might already know everything about Masa’s connections with the yakuza and Hime.

1 Mixxy Finds Sunny, But The Bot Crashes Moments Later
Hime Seems To Have Stolen The Dark Manual From Her
In Sunny episode 6’s final moments, Mixxy receives a note instructing her to visit a nearby location. She shows up at the location with a knife, believing that her life could be in danger. However, to her surprise, she finds Sunny. Soon after finding her, Mixxy takes her home to Suzie, where they realize that Sunny is not the same. Sunny’s screen seems all glitchy, and she even falls to the ground, hinting that Hime and her men took something out of her.
Sunny‘s earlier episodes suggested that the reason why Suzie’s home robot seemed so much more advanced and human than others was that she herself had The Dark Manual installed inside her. Hime probably figured this out after accessing Masa’s computer and before stealing all The Dark Manual data from Sunny that made her so advanced. Sunny episode 7 will likely delve deeper into all the information and forbidden code The Dark Manual holds.
New Sunny episodes are released on Apple TV+ every Wednesday.
