It’s a big year for Superman, and to honor the occasion, he’s getting a big book worthy of him. The Summer of Superman is just getting started and there are lots of amazing things around the corner. Now DC Comics is bringing back a staple from yesteryear to continue this months-long celebration.
Spring is practically over and DC Comics is keeping up the energy from its Summer of Superman initiative with a brand-new one-shot story. This July, the publisher will be releasing Superman Treasury 2025: Hero for All by Superman legend Dan Jurgens and fan-favorite artist Bruno Redondo.
This one-shot story will be treasury sized (10 1/8″ x 13 5/16″, roughly twice the size of a normal comic). The story sees a group of extremists invades Earth and only Superman can stop them. But something’s afoot about the attack and the Man of Steel is going to have to find out why.
Superman Gets a Big Comic to Celebrate His Biggest Summer Ever
After 25 Years, The Man of Tomorrow is Getting a New Treasury-Sized Story
With an extremely anticipated reboot just months away, everyone knows that this is a big year for Superman. But Clark Kent’s big year doesn’t begin nor end with the silver screen. DC Comics is going all-out in celebrating its most iconic superhero with a brand-new publishing initiative, the Summer of Superman. This new initiative honors the Big Blue Boy Scout and his cast with new ongoings and miniseries such as Superman Unlimited, Supergirl, and Krypto: the Last Dog of Krypton. And that’s not even getting into the other things planned, like new directions for current Superman series and brand-new one-shots.
By the publisher’s own admission, it’s been about 25 years since the last Treasury edition story. But this is a humongous moment for Superman. Right now, fans everywhere are getting hyped, both for his new film and for the exciting adventures DC Comics has planned. And judging by the preview art DC has revealed, fans can expect the creative team to utilize the treasury’s size well and really give fans a detailed and gorgeous-looking adventure. It’s an unconventional size, sure, but this initiative is honoring all parts of Superman’s history, and this is a great way to do it.
Superman’s New Treasury Story is Sure to Live Up to the Format’s History
Superman Treasury 2025: Hero for All Will Fit Right in With Other Treasury Classics
Previous Treasury stories have seen Superman go toe to toe with boxing legend Muhammad Ali and meet Peter Parker in the iconic Superman vs. the Amazing Spider-Man story. The Treasury editions might have fallen out of favor, but they hold a special place in the Man of Steel’s history. With DC Comics doing everything it can to honor its beloved hero, bringing the Treasury editions back is a great way to honor that part of Superman’s history (and it doesn’t hurt having Jurgens and Redondo on it either).
Superman Treasury 2025: Hero for All is available from DC Comics on July 2nd.
