The Golden Bachelorette’s Pascal Ibgui Apologizes To Chock Chapple After Shocking “Stalker” Insult

The Golden Bachelorette contestant Pascal Ibgui apologized to Joan Vassos’ frontrunner Chock Chapple after calling him a “stalker.” After Pascal self-eliminated from The Golden Bachelorette season 1 when he realized that he wasn’t in love with Joan, in an interview with Glamour, he shared that he thought that Chock was like a stalker in the way that he was “all over” Joan. He also called out Chock for how he was glued to Joan’s side on the bowling group date, stating that it was “bizarre behavior.”

Pascal apologized to Chock for calling him a stalker.

In an Instagram post with a video, Pascal apologized to Chock for calling him a stalker. In the post’s caption he wrote, “Taking responsibility for what I said. Thank you to everyone for your love & support. Looking forward to the final episode this Wednesday evening! Best of luck to both men!” Pascal began his video by saying, “I wanted to make this video because I want to thank Bachelor Nation to include me in the first Golden Bachelorette season. What an incredible experience. I had a chance to meet some incredible gentlemen along the way.”

Pascal then expressed that he was sorry to Chock. He said, “But the most important is I want to apologize to Chock. Me calling him a stalker was out-of-line, inappropriate, uncalled for, and definitely the wrong use of word. So, please, Chock, accept my apology.”

Pascal went on to say that he’ll be watching Joan’s Golden Bachelorette finale on Wednesday, November 13, to see if she chooses Chock or Guy Gansert. He shared, “I will be tuning on Wednesday to watch the reveal, and I’m anxious to see who’s the winner. I want to wish the two of you the best of luck. And, again, thanks Bachelor Nation for that incredible time we spent together. I will always remember, and I am so grateful. Thank you and thank you.”

What Pascal Ibgui’s Apology To Chock Chapple Means For Their Friendship

Pascal Should Privately Say He’s Sorry As Well

Although Pascal’s public apology to Chock was not only nice, but definitely needed, hopefully he said that he was sorry to him privately as well. Otherwise, it could be misconstrued as Pascal only trying to restore his reputation, rather than as a sincere apology. If Joan did choose Chock in the end, then Pascal most likely wouldn’t be able to maintain a friendship with them if he was insulting Chock by using words such as “stalker” and “bizarre” to describe him.

Our Take On Pascal’s Apology To Chock

Pascal Should Be Given Some Grace

Although “stalker” is a very strong word, Pascal is not only 70 years old, but English isn’t his first language because he was born in France, so he should be given some grace. It’s highly possible that he wasn’t aware of the very negative connotation that the word stalker has in today’s world, and that he didn’t realize the severity of what he said about Chock until people reacted to it. It’s obvious that Pascal couldn’t have meant “stalker” literally because a stalker is someone who follows a person around, sometimes without their knowledge, which definitely doesn’t describe Chock.

Clearly, since Joan didn’t seem to mind Chock’s behavior on the bowling date, and she even welcomed it, Chock is not a stalker. In fact, Joan told Pascal that she wished that he’d given her more attention on group dates. He could’ve learned a thing or two from how Chock treated Joan as though they were the only two people in the room.

Pascal is right that his use of the word stalker was out-of-line, inappropriate, and uncalled for, but it might not have been as malicious as it first seemed. Pascal should definitely offer Chock a private and more personal apology, but his public show of remorse for his words is a step in the right direction.

The Golden Bachelorette

finale airs on Wednesday, November 13 at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
