The Office Reboot: Cast, Story & Everything We Know

The Office reboot is in the works for the show’s new home of Peacock, and the exciting continuation is finally taking shape after years of speculation. Despite ending in 2013, The Office found a resurgence of popularity after the series began streaming on Netflix. As one of Netflix’s most-watched titles, the streamer took a hit when the rights reverted to NBCUniversal’s streaming service, Peacock. With the sitcom still fresh on viewers’ minds, the notion of a reboot remains a topic of discussion.

Based on the UK series of the same name, Greg Daniels created The Office in 2005 when it debuted on NBC. With the mockumentary format and wide variety of characters led by inept manager Michael Scott (Steve Carell), The Office found its footing in season 2. It then became a bona fide hit for the network throughout its nine-season run before coming to an end in 2013. Talk of a revival of The Office has steadily gained momentum in the years since, and the reboot finally feels closer than ever.

The Office reboot will come with a host of new characters, but this shouldn’t be cause for concern. After all, the show has survived one total recast.

The Office Reboot Story Details

The Reboot Will Be Set In The Midwest

Perhaps the most speculated about part of The Office reboot has been its story, and it was long shrouded in mystery with very little detail. However, when the show was given the official green light in May 2024, story details were also divulged. The Office reboot will not be a simple rehash of the original, instead, it will see the documentary crew from the first show following around a new subject. The reboot will be set in the office of a Midwestern newspaper that is struggling to get back on its feet with a crew of volunteer reporters.

Though this doesn’t eliminate the possibility of a crossover with the original show, the disparate setting would make it difficult for the residents of Scranton to make cameos. However, the reboot will be set in the same universe as The Office which opens the door for anything to happen. With the show being about a newspaper, it could be entirely possible that Dunder Mifflin does business with the struggling print operation in The Office reboot.
