The final installment and reunion of The Ultimatum: Queer Love premiered in June 2023, and there’s curiosity surrounding whether one of the pairs, Sam Marks and Aussie Chau, is still together. While there was plenty of love between the pair, Aussie’s selfishness and inability to engage meaningfully with a partner made it difficult for Sam to take them seriously. Many of Aussie’s issues and past traumas were brought up in their trial marriage with Mildred Woody. Seeing that another partner had difficulty with Aussie’s tendencies empowered Sam to adopt a new persona that challenged Aussie when they misbehaved.
Four of the five original couples ended the finale engaged, with Xander Boger and Vanessa Papa as the only couple that decided to part ways. Despite her intense connection with Xander, Yoly Rojas accepted Mal Wright’s proposal. Lexi Goldberg and Rae Cheung-Sutton, Tiff Der and Mildred Woody, and Sam and Aussie also ended the finale engaged. However, some relationships drastically changed when the reunion rolled around. So, are Sam and Aussie still together, or did they call it quits?

Sam & Aussie Are Still Together
They Love To Post On Social Media Together
As of September 2024, Sam and Aussie are the only couple still together from The Ultimatum: Queer Love. While Lexi and Rae were still together at the reunion, they broke up shortly after. According to Netflix Tudum, Sam and Aussie’s secret is prioritizing themselves first and putting their relationship second.
Due to this logic, their concerns lie mainly with doing internal healing work rather than prioritizing walking down the aisle. Aussie expressed issues on the show with coming to terms with their own sexuality and repressed shame from their childhood, and figuring out those issues has become the forefront of Sam and Aussie’s path toward marriage.
Sam and Aussie love to express their love for each other on Instagram. They each have their own page and but Aussie also uses her page to represent her and Sam as a couple. Both Sam and Aussie aim to “Empower Motivate Inspire” and “Uplift.” The pair have a strong focus on mental health on both their pages and advocate for a group regarding culturally responsive mental health care. They specifically focus on Asian-American mental health.
Fans Found The Ultimatum: Queer Love’s Aussie Problematic
Aussie Didn’t Make A Good Impression
While Sam and Aussie were the only pair to make it past the reunion engaged, many fans online argued that Aussie was not a good partner and that Sam should have left.
According to
baby_sun
on Reddit, ”
Aussie is too triggered and self-centered to care about anyone except Aussie. I feel sorry that Sam has to deal with such a non-reciprocal partner.
“
Other fans flooded the comments in agreement, saying, “I’m not sure what Aussie brings to the table. Doesn’t seem to do cooking or chores. Can’t deal with uncomfortable but crucial conversations. Seems uncertain about future plans even though in her 40s.”
While Sam and Aussie have expressed they’re working on themselves more than their marriage plans at the moment, one can only hope Aussie is unpacking the childhood trauma that caused them to throw a tantrum on camera at a restaurant when Sam stood up for herself. Sam’s an intelligent and empathetic communicator who deserves better than someone selfish and avoidant. Hopefully, The Ultimatum: Queer Love taught the pair a thing or two about healthy relationships.
The fact that the duo are still together speaks positively toward the aim of The Ultimatum. They were able to identify the issues within their relationship and themselves and have been able to navigate their post-show life in a structured and pointed way.
Judging by their Instagram accounts, Sam and Aussie seem determined to spread awareness about mental health, and in turn, it looks like their mission has brought them closer together.
As for their potential marriage, there doesn’t appear to be a date set between the two.
