Summary
- A Han & Gisele spinoff set between Fast Five & Fast 6 could have worked.
- Fast and Furious’ only proper spinoff movie so far is Hobbs & Shaw.
- Han & Gisele are expected to reunite in Fast 11 after returning from the dead.
Fast and Furious has had a few spinoffs already, but the one I wanted to see the most will probably never happen. While Tokyo Drift is technically the third movie in the Fast Saga, it very much plays as a spinoff when compared to the films starring Paul Walker and Vin Diesel. Hobbs & Shaw was Fast and Furious’ first proper spinoff movie, taking two established characters and placing them on a separate adventure that barely acknowledged the events of the Dominic Toretto films. Fast and Furious also has an animated TV spinoff – Spy Racers.
After his return in Fast X’s post-credits scene, Dwayne Johnson announced a Hobbs spinoff movie that would bridge the gap between the tenth film and the upcoming Fast & Furious 11. Not much else has been revealed about the project since. Likewise, Hobbs & Shaw 2 still hasn’t happened. Between rumors of a female-led Fast and Furious film and the uncertainty regarding Hobbs, the Fast Saga still hasn’t confirmed its future past the Dominic Toretto movies. That said, I believe some members of Toretto’s family are interesting enough to sustain their own spinoffs.
I’ve Always Wanted To See A Han & Gisele Spinoff Set Between Fast 5 & Fast 6
Han And Gisele Were Traveling Around The World After Fast Five
Han and Gisele met in Fast Five, a movie in which all the different corners of the franchise converged. Dom and Brian put together a team that consisted of characters from all previous films, including Tokyo Drift’s Han and Fast & Furious 4’s Gisele. The duo worked together during the heist in Rio, and by the end of the film, they were together. Fast Five’s ending montage included Han and Gisele driving into the sunset, with the newly formed couple making plans to go to Tokyo. All of that happened before Tokyo Drift in the Fast and Furious timeline.
Han’s death was either shown or referenced in four different movies:
Tokyo Drift
,
Fast & Furious 6
,
Furious 7
, and
F9
.
Fast & Furious 6 takes place mostly before Tokyo Drift and stars with Han and Gisele on some kind of mission in Hong Kong when Toretto calls them for help. This scene implied that Gisele and Han had been traveling around the world and finding themselves in some action-packed adventures ever since the end of Fast Five, which always sounded to me like the perfect spinoff setup. I would have loved to see a Han and Gisele spinoff set between Fast Five and Fast & Furious 6, the latter of which featured both of their deaths.
Fast X’s Ending Means That Han And Gisele Will Finally Reunite
Han And Gisele Have Both Returned From The Dead
Fast & Furious 6 was not very kind to Gisele and Han. Gisele died toward the end of the film after falling from an airplane that was about to take off, whereas Han’s Tokyo Drift death played in the post-credits scene. Given how popular those characters had become, plus the fact that Fast and Furious was failing to give Han justice, I assumed that a spinoff set between Fast Five and Fast 6 was the best way to honor them. However, the statuses of Han and Gisele have changed drastically since then.
For those who believed Han and Gisele deserved a better ending than what they got in
Fast & Furious 6
, it should now finally happen in
Fast 11
.
Both characters have returned from the dead and are now expected to reunite in Fast & Furious 11. Han was revealed to be alive in F9, with his return being one of the movie’s biggest selling points. Gisele showed up at the end of Fast X and served as the film’s sequel hook alongside the Hobbs post-credits scene. For those who believed Han and Gisele deserved a better ending than what they got in Fast & Furious 6, it should now finally happen in Fast 11. It’s unclear whether they know the other is alive.
A Han & Gisele Spinoff Could Still Work (But It Seems Unlikely)
What Will Happen After Fast 11 Remains To Be Seen
A Han and Gisele spinoff could still work, though it would not make sense for it to be a prequel. Fast and Furious has already struggled to make Tokyo Drift’s timeline work with the rest of the movies, especially with Sean, Earl Hu, and Twinkie returning in F9. A Han and Gisele story set after Fast Five but before Fast & Furious 6 would be a Tokyo Drift prequel by default, making everything more complicated. Another option would be to have a Han and Gisele movie set between Fast 6 and F9, but this would depend on whether they knew the other was alive.

Assuming Gisele and Han make it out of Fast & Furious 11 alive, I could see a spinoff film about them. Fast and Furious’ future after Fast 11 is unclear, but the saga is no stranger to spinoffs as seen with Hobbs and Shaw. While Dominic Toretto’s family works better as a team, characters like Gisele and Han are arguably big enough to sustain their own movies. That said, after Fast X’s underwhelming box office, whether any other spinoffs will happen likely depends on how Fast 11 will perform.
