Today’s Connections Hints & Answers For March 13, 2025 (Puzzle #641)

You might feel like you are beginning to spin in today’s Connections puzzle, and if you are, you can flag down some hints from us to help you straighten out. This puzzle felt quite tricky, as you may have noticed, because of a variety of factors that made it hard to get the right categories filled. There was a whole category that I didn’t have much context for, and it is quite a miracle that I managed to make it through this one. However, now I get to tell you what to do to get the right answers.

If you still need to get some gaming time in to finish off the day, the NYT’s Wordle puzzle will be the one you need to try out if you haven’t already. There are lots of five-letter words in the world, and you will need to know quite a few of them in order to get the Wordle right every day. However, you can use the link above to find out what words have been used before to eliminate some of your choices. Finish it off and keep up your streak to end today well.

Today’s Connections Category Hints

MARCH 13 #641

This puzzle felt hard due to the words that all can serve a similar function. There are a lot of words that imply the movement of a particular shape or object, and yet there are other words mixed in as well. This can make it hard to figure out what goes where, and most of these words don’t go together in the end. In a surprising twist of fate, I actually ended up solving the purple category last, and I am a little mad about it. In the meantime, here are the four clues:

  • One category is about how you might feel toward someone in comparison to someone else
  • One category is about how you might acquire a particular necessity
  • One category is about a series of things that you would find in a particular game
  • One category is about four words that are from a single source that you might come across in high school

PARTIALITY

BIAS

SLANT

SPIN

This one confused me mainly because of the combination of words here, as BIAS and SPIN don’t seem like the same thing. However, I understand what is going on here now. BIAS is something I had to study a lot in school, as you have to know your own in order to minimize it as much as possible in research projects. That said, it was the last category I put together on my own, which was mainly due to the number of movement-based words I mentioned earlier. This is particularly the case with SPIN and SLANT.

SIGNAL DOWN, AS A TAXI

FLAG

WAVE

HAIL

WHISTLE

This was the second category I got, as I was trying to work out what the difference between the movement words is. WILT was already taken, but TURN, FLOP, SLANT, and SPIN were all still around, and they all feel quite similar. In the end, I looked at FLAG and WAVE and noticed that they both implied something similar. From there, HAIL was the next word that made the most sense, as they could all be a type of greeting. The only thing that made that work was WHISTLE, which ended up being the right answer.

TURN

There were more movement words in this one, but I also have no experience and no knowledge of Texas Hold ‘Em beyond that it is a form of Poker. I don’t know what the card types are, and I was very confused about where these words were supposed to go and what they meant. That said, I came to this category last which helped me solve the puzzle in the nick of time. That was lucky, but I can see how this category could be very divisive, easy for those who know the game, and hard for those that don’t.

WILT

I solved this category first, and I am a little mad about it because we’re back to Shakespeare, and if you’ve been following along, you know I have a beef to grind with the man. I knew these were “old” words and ones that have mostly fallen out of use now. The only thing that made me question what to do was HAIL, as I was trying to figure out if WILT or HAIL belonged here more, particularly when WILT could fit in with all the other movement-based words.
